Everyone is doing it for the money, save for some weird spotter types and the only thing about lying through your teeth is remembering what you've said. I know a few that told fairy stories to get the job but it didn't make them bad drivers.

In all honesty Id probably do it for the exact same salary that Im on just now as bizarrely as you might find that plus Im sure fabricating stories on an application form will come back to haunt them in life in some way or another. Im not some "weird spotter type" either as you so nicely put it.

They'll probably take on as many internals as they can and I bet the majority of any external candidates they do take on will be female as they want to attract women into the role.

What a cynical view of Scotrail. Surely they wouldn't be overly biased towards hiring woman as drivers?

So much so, if I was to apply and get an interview, I would turn up in my wife's best dress!

As one of about 13000 applicants, I am not holding my breath and I'm a qualified driver applicant. I really don't know how a hr department sifts that many applicants, but its going to be a numbers game. Good luck to everyone who applied.

I emailed hr before the vacancies were listed online and they said to apply online when the vacancies opened. The reply time to the email I sent was very very quick which was refreshing.

One of the questions online was are you a qualified driver with a drop down answer box and also, if so were you happy for your manager to be contacted for safety info. My answers were all related to my driving experience as well.

I'd be intrigued, though will likely never know, how many of those 13000 are current drivers.

I spoke to someone this morning about this on behalf of a another qualified driver I know - your application will be progressed separately from the thousands so shouldn't get lost in the masses.

Is this still the case under abellio? I know first group were over zealous when it came to punishing drivers after incidents but abellio don't seem to be going overboard in the same manner.

I know someone who works for Abellio buses London and says since getting promoted to Centrecomm that they would never ever work for Abellio again. Is Abellio really that bad ?

We don't even have a uniform yet! Still wearing First uniforms. I think that says enough....

1st post so be kind, application forms are in so waiting patiently on closing date then weeding process. Jumping the gun a fair bit but was wondering if anyone can advise on fall out rates during training and probation period, is it once your in they work with you to address any bits your struggling with or ruthless your out type.

For those talking about the Dumfries jobs earlier in the thread, I believe these were freight drivers who were getting laid off and ASLEF put the pressure on to get them jobs.

Also the 6 month thing counts for internal applicants too.

Hi everyone, first post here. Had a good read through before submitting my application so would like to thank everyone who's contributed. I spent a couple of days writing down my answers on a notepad then spent one sold evening typing it all up.

I guess now it's just the wait to see if I make it through to next stage.
