Well i put in for these and have passed the assesment before with First group but missed out on the job by a few points at the final stage ,

But i have not heard anything yet im still at awaiting shortlisting

edit sorry no thx for edinburgh job , but glas still awaiting shortlisting

Im guessing they had a load of qualified guys apply for edin jobs

yup, got a no thanks also for the edinburgh job, but still waiting to hear from the glasgow job. i dont live within an hour of the edinburgh site, so i think that was going against me, but who knows what else.

Hi guys

Well done to those who made it to training. I'm still awaiting shortlisting for Glasgow but I don't feel very confident.
I was just wondering what those who have made it to training and those who didnt had in terms of experience etc. This would be a big change in career for me and hence my lack of confidence. Thanks in advance.

I think it can be a bit of a lottery. There are thousands applying for these positions. Just keep trying and eventually you'll get what you want.

Hi Steve,

I do have railway experience, but I wouldnt say this was necessarily a big factor in being successful. The application stage is straight forward in that you should be tailoring your answers to meet the requirments of the role.

The tests are a total lottery, I failed the dots test on my first attempt and passed 2nd time around. The DTM interview did require a little bit of railway knowledge, but nothing that cant be researched online.

For the reaction test I practiced with the bop-it toy, not sure if this made a difference but it was worth a try.

The structured interview was hard, but I prepared by making sure I had appropriate and in depth answers.

I've went through the pack a couple of times and done some extra research online for the bits I felt I could do better with.

Still practicing yet, found this forum whilst searching for more info so thought I'd have a look around.

There's not much online to be honest apart from the dot test. You should practice that alot.

Im still "awaiting shortlisting" for glasow But i passed the assessment in jan of this year.

Wonder if they are just making me wait till the interveiw stage to tell me anymore .

Did u find out about both depots on the same day ? if not what day did u hear about the glasow assesment

Got the pack through the post advising further information in an email. When I checked my emails only had an Edinburgh knockback.
Next day 2 emails arrived, one with time/date to attend and another email saying where the assessments were to be held.
Letters dated 6th April.

If you were at the assessment on the 15th of April in Glasgow we should hear back before Thursday.

Recommend checking online with your account on First see what it says.

Can anyone give more a bit more detail on how the tests are conducted. Specifically is the Group Bourdon done with pencil and paper or computer based? Depending upon the answer I'll tailor my practice appropriately.

Any other info also gratefully received.
