Is there a reason that the sleepers are going up and down the ECML at the moment?

They pass each other near Darlington each night at about 0230. I've only noticed because we're having to sleep with the windows open and I'm a light sleeper.

I have also noticed electrified freight too. Something unheard of on the East Coast.

Is the WCML shut at night? And if so, how long for?

Monday night I was on the Highland sleeper to Fort William, departed Euston at 1951 hours arrived at Fort William at 11-37 am, almost 16 hours.

On the West Highland Line you're doing well to be doing 45mph

There's also a lot of faffing about reversing near Willesden, it takes well over an hour just to get to Finsbury Park.

Today's 2115 is very slow to Peterborough, but then seems to really speed up, It took 28 mins to do Finsbury Park - Potters Bar (13 miles), yet is timed to do Doncaster - York (32.5 miles) in 25 mins.

After my plate of Haggis,Neeps and Tatties, a couple of Tennants and a bottle of Red wine I was asleep went it all went Pete Tong.

Apparently a unit was being shunted at Doncaster and got stuck in a neutral section, also there was only one shunter at Waverley when there are normally two.
I was in the twilight zone from just before Doncaster until Dumbarton.

The scenic route round North London when it goes via the ECML must be annoying for some passengers. Tomorrow morning, they take about 1h15 minutes to get from Finsbury Park to Euston.

Is there no capacity with selective door opening for there to be a set-down only stop at Finsbury Park for interchanges with the Underground?

Are there Engineering Works being carried out between London Euston & Crewe which means a 67 can't drag the Sleepers from Crewe to Preston via Manchester Piccadilly?

Yeah, the line would be available during the daytime, but obviously becomes free for overnight blockades, hence the reason the Sleepers are booked via the ECML.

There are no sleeper-related facilities, such as the lounge and showers, at King's Cross. And there are no free platforms in the morning peak that the sleeper could terminate in. (In fact are any platforms at KX even long enough for a 1+16 formation?)

None of the support facilities exist at Kings Cross and none of the platforms are long enough to accommodate a full Sleeper set.
