ScotRail, single instead of a Return?

I'm heading to Glasgow tonight from Uphall but the last train back is quite early so I usually just hop on a train to linlithgow and get picked up.

Could I just purchase a single Uphall to Linlithgow and break at Queen Street?

Unfortunately not. That's over three times the mileage, and it's not Permitted because they share a common routeing point.

OUTWARD JOURNEY Uphall to Linlithgow
Mileage 61.45 (Shortest possible 20.64)
Origin & destination have a common routeing point
