Hi guys,

Now that Tourism in the next week is likely to pick up in Scotland due to hotels opening. Are we likely to see the full timetable being implemented on the West Highland Lines and services around Glasgow which are still winding down around 8-10pm?

Hopefully. I noticed the East Kilbride service went up to half hourly. 90 min gap between second last and last EK service at night.

I wonder if the Milngavie-Edinburgh service is going to return any time soon. Heading up to Edinburgh tomorrow and it's only 2tph.

I think the 3rd August is too far away. Other TOC's have had no issue with getting later services restored with very minimal notice. Scotrail didn't really give a reason for the earlier finish either.

Very odd that even with hospitality opening up in Scotland today, the last Edinburgh-Glasgow Service is at 2215 and there are no trains at all on the route from 2015-2215.

The 3rd of August change will not see a return to full timetable either, according to one of the social media team at Scotrail today.

They also have stuck with the 2m social distancing when every other transport operator has gone to the new 1m.

They continually state the trains are only for key workers on social media too, yet if you're a key worker finishing after 10pm, or starting at 6am, they aren't interested.

Apparently, according to the same social media people, they have a lot of staff off sick with coronavirus, and training to catch up on.

Interestingly, the Subway in Glasgow returned to normal operation as of today, to support the re-opening of the hospitality sector. They had to fight to get any money from Holyrood, and got £9million for July to September; nothing for March to June.

The railway has had at least £339million according to Transport Scotland figures...

Yes, surprised more services werent added. Maybe there wasnt enough notice or crewing issues. I think the coach citylink service is back to normalish freqs.

Yes, Scottish Citylink/Megabus are running rings around ScotRail. Very noticeable on the Glasgow - Edinburgh route with early morn and late night departures and yet again more service increases coming from Monday for the coaches.

I noted yesterday the 18:15 Edinburgh - Glasgow service was operated solely by a 4 car 385 and the 18:40 Edinburgh - Helensburgh was a 3 car 334 along with various 3 car formations throughout Glasgow vice 6. Definitely not ideal for the increased amount of pax travelling at peak times

Yes. I went on the 900 today and it was running every 15 minutes which I personally believe is a bit premature. Only two people including myself got off at Edinburgh.

In terms of Strathclyde. Stagecoach and First are really running over Scotrail. The buses are running to later times with the last bus to Ardrossan being 21:15 which is spectacular compared to the last train at 19:45

ScotRail services are now showing for 3rd August onwards on realtimetrains whereas yesterday when I checked they weren't showing any at all (Not even in CAN). They are now all running as WTT.

From what I have checked:
Back to normal service levels for the Argyle line / North Clyde line in that first train is 6am and last train is around 23:30
No Milngavie-Edinburgh off-peak services (And most just terminate at Airdrie now)
Still hourly Lanark (Half-hourly in the peaks though)

I think this may be the future now as it has been amended throughout the rest of 2020 and nothing is showing in CAN, suggesting that these are the long term changes. I would hope that this isn't the start of a permanent cut in service levels and I hope the all day 2nd hourly Lanark and MLN-EDB return sometime soon.

Sucks if Lanark is actually 1tph off-peak. Bellshill & Uddingston could do with a full service, they already got a bit of a blow when they sent all services there through to the High Level.

Ayr still running as 2tph all stations, with an occasional faster service non stop between Kilwinning and Glasgow.

Yup it sucks if this is a permanent change, the likes of Shieldmuir/Wishaw/Carluke/Lanark lose out huge here, same for Ayr / Gourock with a reduction from 4tph to roughly 2tph.

Was thinking of going to Ayr tomorrow or Friday, but not so enticed if there isn't an express. I don't really fancy the train stopping at all stations.

I assume the December timetable changes will sort everything out. It's a shame as the fast Gourock and fast Ayr services have always been very popular with leisure travellers, particularly at weekends.

The new timetable is far better than it was before my last train on a weekday being 19:45 compared to the regular 23:45. The fact Scotrail did early finishes for as long as they did was a farce really. It's still not explained the massive gaps in trains between 9pm and 10pm.

I'm assuming they are compensating for the reduced services by running longer trains on these routes. Though knowing Scotrail this is unlikely.

I saw some 3 carriages on Argyle just before peak yesterday (the dreaded 1608 Argyle St - Cumbernauld) which was appalling given the number of trains that are likely parked in depots at the moment. If they are still intent on reducing services, there is no excuse for not having 6 carriages. I'm assuming that 320's and 318's aren't heading up to Inverclyde at the moment if there is only 2tph there so that means that there is space for those Argyle & North Clyde trains to be 6 carriage.

Yup and no offence to anyone whos local route is Paisley Canal but it makes no sense how Paisley Canal can justify 2tph all day when Lanark can't. Surely Lanark would have more demand?

I agree tbh unless numbers are so low overall as First run the X11 through Wishaw into Glasgow and that could have picked up a few given that they're extra peak journeys are also back too. Must be a nightmare for people in Carluke and lanark though

Inverclyde is soley 380/385 operation atm. No sign of 318s/320s up there for a while I believe.

Paisley Canal can really only justify 1tph off peak. Maybe 2tph in the peak but 1tph is still ideal.

I'd thought that was the case since March (they definitely were there at the start of the year). With Inverclyde being exclusively 380 & 385, I thought that would free up enough 318's & 320's to double up a few Argyles and North Clydes to 6 cars when needed but clearly not.

Trains as old as them shouldn't be on Inverclyde IMO.

Went to Ayr this afternoon. Aside from being only 2tph, the train I was going to get was 3 coach and too busy! Needless to say I waited another half hour for the next one. Of course, to no surprise, there were tons of 380's parked at Shields (Central was also packed with them, not as many 385's, 318's or 320's as normal).

Again - if services are reduced, there is no excuse for not having full capacity!!! <(

Exactly, they can't really promote social distancing if the trains are too busy. Trains shouldn't be sitting about, they can easily hook them together.

Is it not just down to number units used? A 3-car to Paisley Canal every 30 mins can run with 2 units which is the same as an hourly Lanark service (although Lanarks are running as 6 cars).

1 death in 16 days now so the train situation is unbelievably strange especially given that more and more is opening up

Really really bizarre and not at all reflective of where society is now. I'm pretty angry actually - I wasn't asking for a train at 1am or even midnight but 2153 is pathetic on every level.

Best directing your anger and upset at the Scottish Government as they are pulling the strings not Scotrail.

Love the fact they are in the news with the reduction of social distancing to 1m on Monday when the Subway did it from the 10th of this month, and the buses have been doing it since the 13th....

Makes no sense that it's taken so long with the trains either. Far easier to distance on a train than a bus or subway
