Help required please, it may be me ??? but how do you go about booking seats on the Scotrail overnights without getting routed to sleeper births etc...

ie, I want to travel Crewe to Glasgow if poss on seats ??

If you already have tickets that are valid for your journey it is just the same as booking a seat for any other journey, just pop into a ticket office and ask for a seat res for the required train.

If you do not have travel tickets it may be cheaper to get sleeper specific tickets. Available tickets+reservations and sleeper specific tickets can be booked on the scotrail website.

You should know only the Highland sleeper (Inverness+Aberdeen with change in Edinburgh for through passengers to Westerton and stations to Fort William) stops in Crewe to pick-up. The Glasgow/Edinburgh sleeper only stops at Watford Jct, Carlisle and Carstairs.

From crewe your options are to either journey down to Euston/Watford Jct or get the highland (with change at Edinburgh as no through seating carriage is carried) to Westerton and get the first local train to Central. Validity of a regular Crewe-Glasgow ticket for that journey would need to be checked.

There is no Crewe-Glasgow sleeper service AFAIK.

I don't think the Highland stop to pickup/set down at Glasgow and the Lowland does not stop at Crewe.

You can't do Crewe-Glasgow on the sleeper. Only the Highland sleeper stops at Crewe. The Lowland sleeper only calls at Euston, Watford Junction, Carlisle, Carstairs, then splits to either Motherwell and Glasgow or Edinburgh. The Highland sleeper stops at Crewe, but doesn't call at Glasgow, however the Fort William portion does stop at Westerton and Dalmuir on the North Western edge of glasgow where you can get a train into the centre.

You can go to a station, buy whatever ticket you require, ask to reserve a seat on the sleeper from X to Y, or buy online off ScotRail website.

I know Still no direct sleeper train Crewe-Glasgow!

Worth mentioning that seated sleeper on the Fort William service requires you to move to another carriage on arrival at Edinburgh.

I haven't had any questions asked when I have booked and travelled London to Glasgow via Stirling on the highland sleeper so presumably you can use Stirling as an alternative to Westerton.

Take a look at map ZZ
I've travelled Cumbernauld - Crewe before and the staff had to check if Falkirk Grahamston was valid as I wanted to book on to that sleeper and the specific stations don't appear
Initially they gave me times for Cumbernauld to Stirling, but I pointed out the sleeper called at Falkirk Grahamston so what was the point of that!

Interesting that Euston to Glasgow could be completed via Stirling, using the Inverness sleeper!

My (paper) copy of the Routeing Guide specifically states that these easements only apply to those occupying a berth.

Has this requirement since been done away with??

The ATOC guide simply states "sleeper service", and that would include sleepers and seats as they are conveyed on the same train
Note that the map extends all the way along the ECML to all five main destinations
What it does state is that travel is not permitted between Inverness - Edinburgh and Aberdeen - Edinburgh, so this may be the reference being made to (in order to try and simplify it for those selling tickets)

The easement was discussed before and was partially in conflict
It does not appear to be included the latest version
