What happens to the units that were named? I take it they are effectively de-named if the Kilmarnock edition is anything to go by. Wasn't there a bonnie prince charlie at one time also, amongst others.

That would be 156465 when it was it was in RR ScotRail livery. IIRC the nameplates were taken off when it was repainted into ScotRail 'Swoosh' livery.

So, does it just lose its name and thats it? What's the point in it then? Seems a waste of time.:)

I don't understand why they didn't bother to put the nameplates back on it.
I don't think there are any left since 433 had it's plates removed when it was reliveried?

It would be nice to see the 5 which had names (433, 449, 454, 465 and 477) get their names back though, but proper cast plates, not vinyls.

Hi will the 8 class 158s now staying with FSR be refurbished? If they will I expect Scotland's Railways livery? I realise two were refurbished by South West Trains not long ago, but some of the Wessex ones have only recieved new upholstery. Also why have the lights changed on the front ends of many FSR 158s makes them look very odd indeed- naked even!

The marker lights have been changed to LEDs, and I think the headlights have been changed from tungsten-halogen to HIR bulbs, judging by how bright they are.

Its a different setup to the SWT 159s, they have the HIR and LEDs in the existing housing

I'll post this on here rather than open a new topic.
I am not impressed with First class on Scotrails 158s.
I recently travelled from PBO to INV on the Highland Chieftain HST and it was fantastic in First, unfortunately my travel arrangements meant that I had to use a 158 from INV to EDB for the return.
There doesn't seem to be any more leg room than in Standard class, also the trolley came along once for a cup of coffee and a bickie and that was it.

The staff did come back with the trolley but apologising that there was no hot water, which must happen every day.

I travelled standard class to the Kyle and back, trolley service was by very nice Polish ladies, how they discovered the Kyle when most of England has never been there, well? ;)

I remember coming back from Inverness I had to switch at Perth to meet a train from Aberdeen. When it arrived, the torrley service had everything except milk! I wasn't pleased. :(

I only seem to get the trolleys on 170s. That's probably got osmething to do with my long-distance rail journeys being trips that the 170s operate mostly alone, usually Queen Street - Waverley.

The first 320 has been upgraded to the desired 90mph spec.

It is unit 320-301.

What does this upgrade entail? As a regular user of the units (on a daily basis during term time), I'd be quite interested to see what the difference will be.

I can't comment about the levels of service. But I have used declassified FC accommodation on the 158s on a handful of occasions (on the Maryhill line), and I cannot see what's so good about the seats. IMO (and of course this is subjective), the Standard Class seats are more comfortable, and you don't have a stupid light cluttering up the table.

I've used it on that route too and I quite like it. Don't know how I'd handle it on long distance as I generally prefer Standard Class overall.

It is incredibly simple actually, since the units are capable of reaching the speed already.

It is basically fitting of Yaw dampers (they connect the main body of the coach to the bogie. They are in the middle of the bogie on the outside). The dampers allow the unit to have more stability through corners and during braking. They are fitted to 318's and 334's if you have a look and compare.

There is also a little mod to the traction electronics with the removal of a speed-limiting links.

The 320 contract for Wabtec in Doncaster still hasnt been signed as yet as far as I am aware. Therefore none gone for upgrade (toilets, interior etc) and repaint.

Interfleet were taking measurements at some point this week for the toilet installation.

I don't know if that makes any sense to anyone?

Didn't know where to put this but are there plans to repaint the 8 class 158s which arrived from (Wessex) and South West Trains?

The class 170s FSR recieved from Hull Trains some time ago- were these internally refurbished. Any photos of these interiors?

I have also noticed many FSR barbie liveried trains have vinyl coming off in a number of places is anything being done about this or is the condition only worsening till the ScotRail repaint- might sound trivial but they were looking a state the last time I went up to Scotland (including sleeper stock)

I think carriages B and C (ie, the old Standard Class accommodation) was left as it is. However, most of Carriage A (the old First Class carriage) has been rather hastily redone with First Scotrail seats.

I don't know if they've done much/anything to the remaining section of First Class in Carriage A (at the cab end), or if there's FC accommodation in Carriage C as with most (all?) other FSR 170s.

Well yes...but they are also being done over the next 5 years. SPT ones are being done this coming year....! hence the chance to SPT livery on the Forth Rail Bridge for the last time, and also maybe some 158's on Glasgow suburban routes.

Just finished taking an SPT branded 170 round the Fife circle.

It has/had a little NL car sticker in one cab, as seen here. Don't know if it's still there, though; haven't seen 502 in a while.

Yes it's still there.

Hi,
Class 334's will get the new Saltaire livery under a C6 overhaul currently out to tender. I don't think this overhaul will start before the end of 2010. It includes some refresh inside the saloons and a few technical upgrades. Of course, this assumes FSR are allowed to spend the money!!

Question. With the A - B reopening, what happens with Edinburgh Crossrail? Will the EMUs continue past Waverley to Newcraighall? Or do we end up with Edinburgh - Newcraighall trains? (Which would be quite pointless considering it's only an 11 minute trip).

One is expected to be done for opening of A-B with others following, in line with the 380s being fully introduced and 320s going for refurb from November.

would the reversal siding at newcraighall not have to be wired to allow for this ?

These units are now with ScotRail until 2014 so I would expect them to eventually get the new livery but at present the main concern is with the airdrie-bathgate and ayrshire lines getting rebranded completely as this was a franchise commitment.

Coach A was refitted by INV depot with new First Group carpets and old scotrail style seats. Other areas not touched, these units are now also not confined to INV services due to extra capacity being needed on these services.

The units are re-vinyled when required in the maintenance schedule. Any repaints will occur when a contract is let, other wise expect a continuation of FSR vinyls (as far as Im aware) The Sleeper stock - a significant upgrade is a costing option when the franchise was upgraded, however don't expect anything this year. 2011/2012 would be my guess if the option is taken.

Newcraighall trains now go/will go to Fife via the Fife Circle if im not mistaken?
