I have been give promotion to trainee driver but I’m still waiting to get released. It’s been over 6 months since I got the job and I have not been put on to training salary as HR say that ‘it doesn’t apply to drivers and conductors awaiting courses’ if anyone can tell me what Scotrail policy is.

Cheers

Whatever HR told you is what will be happening. It's frustrating but you're not going to get any truthful/accurate answers on a forum. Ask them outright.

I'm told that there is something written down now that they can gold hold you for 3 months then after that they must release you.

I'd be making equries

Not Scotrail but Network Rail, if your not released by week 12 after the interview you can claim your new salary. I know one bloke who is claiming two grades higher than his operational grade for nearly two years as he can’t be released.

Maybe speak to your union rep, there must be a policy there is for everything else !

Have you spoken to your manager about it? 6 months seems an excessive amount of time to hold on to someone who clearly wants to leave. I would ask him/her when you are likely to get released and if the answer is not what you want maybe speak to your Union rep? Not sure how much the Union can help in these matters but it would be worth finding out.

Echo the above comments.

The usual release time should be no greater than your required notice period.

Similar happened happened to me when I got a drivers job, although I wasn't held back anywhere near as long as 6 months. The RMT who I was member of at the time were no help at all, but ASLEF were a great help. If your friendly with the ASLEF Reps at your depot, might be worth a chat with them, assuming you'd be joining once your'e a driver.
