On the "live trains" page, I can't see anywhere where the operator of each service is shown.
They do show if you tap 'Journey details' on one of the results. I wondered if they were left off the results view to reduce clutter and because they assume it'll mainly be ScotRail results and they don't care for showing the operators that early on! It's a bit annoying though because if you were doing say Inverkeithing to London, even if you found the 'London (All stations)' option, you could have all sorts of operator combos:
  • ScotRail to Waverley then Lumo to King's Cross
  • ScotRail to Waverley then LNER to King's Cross
  • ScotRail to Waverley then Avanti to Euston
  • LNER to Waverley then Lumo to King's Cross
  • LNER to Waverley then Avanti to Euston
  • LNER to King's Cross
  • Etc
All of which have their pros and cons for speed, price, comfort which can vary quite considerably.

Of course people just booking Inverkeithing to Waverley probably don't care that much which operator they get, and in for the vast majority of Scotland->Scotland journeys it's going to be ScotRail.

EDIT: oops I see you said specifically on the live trains page. Ignore everything I've said! :D

When planning a journey, yes, you can do that.

But when looking at live times page, there is no "journey details" option - at least on Android.

Their loss, I've rage deleted it and downloaded TrainSplit. I take it for the forum to benefit i'd need to use the web links above though?

That is correct, however you can sign into the TrainSplit app on both iOS and Android, using the same account you booked tickets with using the forum link, and those forum bookings will be available in the TrainSplit app

The functionality to add a railcard to your account is rather odd.

  1. It only allows the entry of digits, whereas many (all?) railcards also have letters.
  2. The expiry date must be entered in MM/YYYY, whereas railcards expire on a specific day.

In any case, I'm not sure what the purpose of adding a railcard to your account is, because there is no validation of the data and nothing stopping you applying any type of railcard to any fare you wish to buy, regardless of what's saved in your account.

Does it perhaps affect the purchase of flexipasses/seasons?

Seems to only apply railcard discounts randomly as well. What a shambles and right in the middle of the Commonwealth Games too.

Has the new app been taken down from the Apple App Store?

On the website I have noticed a problem with Highland Railcards - discount applies to singles, but not open returns!

This is of course, topped off by the launch coinciding with the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the moment, and the Fringe in Edinburgh about to kick off in earnest.

Joined up thinking would've been as follows: wait until both the Commonwealth Games and the Fringe were in the rear-view mirror before rolling out a new ticketing app for the primary railway operator in the country, thus avoiding a PR nightmare when the new app inevitably has early-day problems.

This is a self-own if ever I've seen one.

Current out of 5 ratings for the two apps on Play Store:

Old: 4.5
New: 1.3

I take it they will get a greater profit per ticket sale through their own app versus any other vendor? If so this isn't just egg on face, this is long term loss of revenue if people permanently switch to alternatives?

does trainsplit allow tickets to be loaded onto a scotrail smartcard? Is it ok with session ticket’s and flexi passes?

Another bit of attention to detail:
depending on where you look, it's the "ScotRail New Official App" (emails and website), "new official ScotRail app" (ticket machines), or "New ScotRail Official App" (departure boards).

Unfortunately, TrainSplit is not permitted by the industry to load tickets onto smartcards, and we are unable to sell season and flexipasses.

Perhaps the existing contract expired end of July? Anyhow, a perfect example of how not to do things.

I could be wrong but I could not seem to search for earlier or later on the initial results page.

Even typing in WCK gives Warwick as the first answer

Here's an interesting bug which I spotted in one of the (many) scathing reviews on Google Play store.

"Tried to add Uphall in Livingston as favourite station. Every time I typed the letters "UPH" the app crashed.

I can reproduce this by typing "uph" in the From or To station in both the Search and Live Trains pages.

Unbelievably bad.

Clearly nothing to do with the "glitches" that were ScotRail's excuses yesterday (which they said they'd fixed by end of Thursday 30th July).

The app is simply an untested pile of junk.

Edit: It seems the crash happens when typing any character after "up" except "p". What is special about "UPP"?

And one more variant in the Google Play store: "ScotRail Trains".

If you search for "ScotRail" in the Google Play store, it isn't even in the results.

This is just completely unacceptable - the new app would charge me £36.45 more for the same journey than the old app with correct fare!

The new app only offering singles for this journey is still £16.90 too much even without the Highland Railcard.

How many unsuspecting rail users have already been rinsed by this app? Perhaps that’s the intention?

I was going to reply to another thread about not being able to buy Rail and Sail to Orkney.

I tried the ScotRail where Stromness is listed... But oh dear...

Inverness Stromness results are actually Inverness Aberdeen trains.

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

In fact this is happening on other sites, at least RailForums ticketing has the decency to say no tickets available

Inverness to Stromness does not have a valid fare via Aberdeen.

Kirkwall is different matter.

I know - so why is Scotrail showing Inverness - Aberdeen trains when I asked for Inverness - Stromness?

At a guess, because there are no scheduled services to Stromness, it's just selecting the alphabetically-first Scottish station (a bit of a stretch!)

That can't be right.

If you look at Live Trains from Stromness, there are plenty departures shown!

It seems to be quite a major station too - at least six platforms and a wide range of destinations served.

Tried the app today, took the money right away, got this screen - 2 hours later no tickets and the trains been and gone
