(Scotrail) Mark 3 carriage external door width

Hi folks,

This is a very specific question and I cannot find, for the life of me, anywhere that provides this information. Does anyone know the width of the main external doors of the Mark 3 carriages? I'm planning on taking a bicycle onto the train to ride from destination station to workplace and my handlebar length is 68mm and Scotrail advise "max permissable" of 65mm. I don't suspect 3mm is going to cause an issue, however if I knew the width of the door then that would give me a better idea. Alternative option is, of course, going down and finding out first hand next time I can. Any info or if anyone knows the answer, I'd be greatly appreciative.

If the maximum permissible handlebar length is specifically stated as being 65mm, what makes you think you're entitled to take a bike that exceeds that onto the train?

Because Scotrail confirmed that it shouldn't be a problem if fits, and that no one is going to be bringing a tape measure to measure handle bars. But thanks very much for the input, greatly appreciated my friend.

I wonder if that 65mm is based on the original vertical bike slots which looked like they wouldn't fit an MTB with wider bars. I've only had my road bike on the carriages and had planned to take my MTB on at some point but didn't realise they specified a 65cm limit, just checked and my bars are 78cm. I have seen MTBs on the trains but I didn't check what bar design they were using.

It will be this, plus the additional bike spaces are in the saloon. I'm guessing the 65cm limit rerfers to the width of the internal sliding door. There not very wide.

I have a bike with 66cm wide handlebars and it's easy enough to manoeuvre through the internal doors to the roll-on cycle space area on the HST with a little bit of changing the angle of the front wheel back and forth.

The two hang-up bike spaces are a last resort - it's a poorly designed space where it would be very difficult to get two bikes to fit unless they are both traditional racing type bikes with narrow handlebars.

If the handlebars won't fit through the internal door, official video for loading cycles on HSTs on the ScotRail website says to loosen the handlebars and turn them to align with the frame.

There is no issue at all getting through the external doors with my 66cm wide bars, so I highly doubt 68cm will be an issue in this regard.
