Scotrail Loco Hauled Services

According to the Official Journal of the European Journal (OJEU), Scotrail has awarded a contract for the supply of loco hauled passenger services Edinburgh - Fife Circle - Edinburgh. The contract is worth £3.5M and the successful bidder is DB Schenker, which will provide driver, loco and stock (either air con Mk II or Mk III).

Anybody know the background to this, and what stock DBS will use (presumably ex-WSMR Mk III and Class 67)?

It's a continuation of the existing contract. MkIIs are used.

Does DBS own the coaches or hire them in?

Does DBS own the coaches or hire them in?

I think that they hire them from Cargo-D and West Coast railways, at least they did last time i went up on them at easter. Hopefully they will still be the same when i go up in the summer holidays

They are DBS coaches, with occasional Cargo-D hire ins during DBS coach refurbs

I think the maroon ones are their own, whilst the blue and grey ones are hired from Cargo-D.
The blue and grey coaches are quite nice, whereas the maroon ones are variable, though most are pretty grotty and not particularly nice inside.
