Can I just check, are all ScotRail InterCity services currently meant to be either an HST or a 170? (ie 158s only do these runs as a last resort)

Pretty sure there a few 158 diagrams, but most are HST and Turbo yes.
Some of the 158 diagrams are primarily there just to move the sets around between the north and south.

There aren't any booked single 158s between Glasgow/Edinburgh and the North but some 5 cars are booked with a 170. There "shouldn't" ever be a single one.

It would be ludicrous for anything between Scotland's major cities to be booked 2-car. Two should only be an emergency in case of a fault or severe disruption.

Totally agree, with a diagonal round the cab side windows it picks up on the original shape of the nose far better than the usual post BR yellow patch against base colour.

Perhaps it's just me, but I find the concept of creating facemask vinyls for trains rather ridiculous...

Nope, it looked ridiculous on a Pendolino. Downright weird to the point that if there wasn't a caption then I would not have known that was what it was on the 395.

I don't find the ScotRail one any better and frankly I don't see the point, it will do nothing to increase awareness of the requirements and won't encourage those that aren't but have no medical reason not to to wear one - so...don't see the point

Agree 100%. They are a terrible gimmick that look amateur. It’s as bad as those moustaches that were put on trains for Movember. I was once asked why my unit had a bat on the front. I explained it was for Halloween and they forgot to take it off.

People need to remember. A train is a machine, not a human.

While I agree it’s not great in terms of looks, I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to things stuck on for Halloween or Movember. Masks will be compulsory or trains for the foreseeable future, so anything that reminds people to wear them if they can is fine by me.

Every station poster board (including pictograms) and CIS should have this information on it and to be fair, it’s saturated throughout the press and is basically a difficult thing to forget now (think shops). Making the trains look ridiculous is pretty much superfluous and smacks of bandwagon to me.

Yes, fed up sounding Scottish automated announcement woman has been receiving some updates of late. I haven't kept pace with all of them because I've not been out on the rails match at all this year and certainly not since march and even more certainly not in Scotland. she did feature a delay reason or two at brunstane when I was last there in early march and I didn't think it would be long until she started proclaiming that an inter 7 city was on the approach. Anyone want to have a bet on how long it will be until she triumphantly pre warns us of the arrival of of an HST and a grotty standard class only 170 huffs and puffs its way in running late and getting later still whilst all the long-suffering passengers sit on semi collapsed seats with mould growing on the wall beside them?

We will have the grotty 170s for conversion to 171s for Marsh link!

You are most welcome to them as far as this passenger is concerned. I fear however that your lords and masters at southern rail weren't particularly happy with the last lot they had and declined the next batch.

it's going off topic and I apologise but it's about time they just admitted defeat and stuck some third rail down the moshling

either that or you can wait a few years until we get new trains and you can have some 50 or 55 or 60 year old hsts for your line

Fortunately 2 x 2 cars aren't allowed on Marsh link because of the very short platforms so they'd have to go to Uckfield and we'd finally get the 4 cars we were promised 15 years ago.
There is no need for dc electrification on Marsh link we have a ac feed at Ashford with plenty of capacity for a maximum of 3 4 car units. Both southern and southeastern have unused dual voltage stock but off topic I fear.

Probably off topic, but what would be going from Haymarket depot to Crofton? Some piece of NR kit?
