The suggestion I heard was that they were actively struggling to retain European staff, though that could easily have been nonsense. There are plenty of areas of engineering at the moment where constant feast and famine and razor thin margins stop you from keeping anything like the number of staff you need on an ongoing salary. If there's a big contract in the offing I'd guess to some extent you have to just bid for it and hope for the best.

That would mirror the issues in other sectors, particularly health, where retaining and recruiting staff is much harder due to the Brexit and the uncertainty. But that said, Wabtec should be honest about their capacity or they might suffer a Hitachi moment.

See Scotrail announced that the HST upgrade for Inverness to Aberdeen and Edinburgh/Glasgow will start his year. Seems they are confident Wabtec will get there a into g and deliver the rolling stock. I am not so sure I would be sticking my neck out on that one.

Not exactly. If you wanted to go all 'Grammar Nazi' and deconstruct the post it reads as either Inverness to Aberdeen, Inverness to Glasgow and Inverness to Edinburgh or Inverness to Aberdeen and Glasgow to Edinburgh.

There is no logical way to get Glasgow to Aberdeen or Edinburgh to Aberdeen from that post (though I suppose the once-daily Inverness-Aberdeen-Edinburgh and vv service would be covered).

Ha ha, when I read 'Grammar Nazi' to start with I thought it was about the seat manufacturer on these trains, we do spend a lot of time discussing seats after all.

On that basis I found the rest of the post very confusing, what have the seats got to do with where the trains go...?

I'm a self-confessed 'grammer nazi'...I HATE those grammer seats in Standard! But that aside, think we should call a 'Pedant Alert' here....I found northhighland's post perfectly logical & easy to understand....!

I’ve heard the ScotRail conductors are to be trained using that vehicle to get a start at it before the first set arrives. Could just be nonsense but I’d expect the person who mentioned it to me to know for sure.

I'm sure they'd counter with something like the corrosion repairs needed were more extensive than anticipated. We need to cut them some slack, but realistic time estimates for the work are called for. The open-endedness isn't doing them any favours.

It's not nonsense, it's true. Currently at Craigentinny for that very purpose.

So no-one thought a 40 year old coach might have corrosion issues. Seems they just aren’t organised to do it

Any progress to report? From the 27 (?) sets to enter service, how many have begun the process at Wabtec?
