Scotrail Gateline Assessment

So after being shortlisted, I have my assessment day coming up. They sent me practice sheets for SCAAT test, which is grids of letters and you score off the one its looking for. Planning a week of practicing and hoping to see improvements each time.

For this role is SCAAT the only test they do or is the dreaded GBT also gonna be there on the day? I'm trying it out too just incase. Until they emailed me this evening, I didn't know it was an all day thing.

What else is on the day? Interview as well or loads of tests? Looking forward to it in a masochistic kind of way. Bit nervous that it says they tell you your results on the day, I will be pacing the floor lol

In another thread I had been interviewed for the on train trolley job and just missed out (application after interview successful - on hold) but it's been a while so not sure if it's still valid. Feedback from that was that I performed well at interview and I do usually fare ok but on a day of tests my nerves may get the better of me!

So any info or advice on the assessment day?

Also if anyone else has info on how many people they looking for (Edinburgh Waverley based) as I would hate to be 2nd or 3rd choice like last time.

If Gateline interview happens same day, what questions are likely to come up?

Also, the practice material they sent is SCAAT only with grids of letters. Should I assume it will be letters on the day or the shape ones on the digital reality program, what is the likelihood of getting GBT as I am worried about my performance on that more than SCAAT.

I never undertook any tests for gateline position at FSR , was just an interview.

A wee online test that was it IIRC. May have changed .

Say's its an assessment day/interview and to practice the SCAAT examples they sent.

And so I have been... til my eyeballs are bleeding.

For gateline jobs, what are the likely questions they ask? I know they are looking for a big focus on customer service and also revenue protection but anything else I should be putting forward?

Phonecall to say I'd passed GBT and interview arranged for Friday.

Weirdly, I got an email from FSR about online hospitality job I applied and 'on hold' for. Am I still interested? I emailed back confirming my application details were same as before so they could 'process my application further'. Is this likely to result in an offer, pending medical?

Lol you wait months for a Scotrail job and two come along at once!

If the interview on Friday goes well... I may be having to choose. A position I never thought I'd be in.

Thoughts on either role? I think the salary is the same. I don't want to jump at the first one to come thru, and I do like the sound of both hence applying but... need to make the right move.

Both good steps into a career. Hospitality gives you on train experience and dealing with customers on board, gatelines can be good for gaining ticketing knowledge both are ideal gateways to becoming a guard at some point in the future, so really its which you would prefer. Remember the commision aspects of both jobs as well, some gateline staff dont sell tickets so no commision others do, so (3%?) commision on tickets sold and there is a commision on hospitality as well (not sure of rate).

3% on trolley sales, it was mentioned when I had my interview earlier this year. I'm guessing 3% of ticket sales will be more (unless the coffee price takes a massive hike lol)

Think the salaries are the same but - given the choice - I'd like to choose the one that would give me a better initial understanding of railway procedures while I'm learning the ropes.

Interview is tomorrow morning for Gateline role, so I may not have the choice if I mess it up!

I did the online application thing and waited about three months before they contacted me with details of the Assessment day.

You will get an interview if you pass the assessment. If you have already done and passed the Group Bourdon test, they might skip straight to interview. But for me it was my first time doing the assessment.

Once I passed, they wanted people in for interview two days later but this may have been a lucky coincidence. Had my interview 10 days ago so no news yet but I am due to attend a medical for another role so I may not see the Gateline process through to the end.

Is it Edinburgh Gateline you applied for?

No its for glasgow queen street. Only done the tests last week so will just wait and see. Having had previous experience with Scotrail i know these things can take a while. Fingers crossed i guess

In the experience I've had, you apply and then after a lengthy wait, the ball starts rolling with interviews and assessments.

Good luck at the assessment, it was a paper based Group Bourdon for this role, not the grid of letters they will send to you for practising lol
