Hi, I have a conditional job offer as a trainne driver for Scotrail. At present I’m a SGB Shunter/ Dispatcher for Scotrail and was wondering what the medical is like for a driver? If anyone has any advice it would be great.

My most recent medical, which was early this week, involved, blood pressure, height/weight (BMI), eye tests, urine, ECG, and a hearing test. That said I don't work for Scotrail, however i wouldn't imagine it would be any different from any other TOC.

Thanks!! Hopefully be much the same as yours. Don’t know if it’s right or not got told about balance test and they tell you an address then ask you the address part of the way through the medical.

Part way through a balance test? Crikey... they will be asking you to pat your head and rub your tummy simultaneously next.

Good luck.

Yes you have to walk in a line with one foot in front of the other. And yes you'll be told Mr Smith lives st whatever address and asked where he lives at some point during the medical.

Anyone know where the initial Scotrail driver medicals take place? Are you told on the day if it’s a pass/fail? Thanks.

Across the road from Central Station. You'll know everything apart from urine test results, takes 3 days for that usually.

Do you know if that is for drivers at all depots, or just ones based in Glasgow?

i.e. if you were in the process for a vacancy in Dundee or Aberdeen, would they ask you go to back to Glasgow for the medical, or would it be in the city where your depot will be? Thanks
