In February i am visiting Glasgow for as few days, and i was wondering if anyone could tell me which services out Glasgow Central are booked for class 156s and which are booked for class 158s.

Last time i visited Glasgow in 2010, some Glasgow - Whifflet / Barrhead / Edinburgh services were booked for class 158s.

Thanks in advance.

Think 158's are still as before.

156's work Stranraers, Barrhead, GSW route (Carlisle via Kilmarnock), East Kilbride and Edinburgh via Shotts.

Paisley Canal now electrified.

I believe since December some changes have been made, so now all bar about half of the Shotts line trains (which are shared with 158s) in and out of Central are 156s. I also believe the Motherwell-Cumbernauld service is now a 156. The Paisley Canal line was electrified in about 11 weeks last autumn and is now 318s or 380s.

HA or IS 158s? I see both normally in the Edinburgh area when up there, but curious as to whether that's unusual or not.

Glad this thread was posted as I'm keen to go up to Glasgow at some point in the spring to fill my NREA somewhat on the various classes up there.

Very few of the Shotts services are 158, the only one I have seen since the December change is the 1318 departure from Glasgow to Edinburgh via Shotts (though it was a 156 on Saturday to it may not be guaranteed).

If you have time to run over to Edinburgh they are more common, as they share duties with 170s on the Dunblane and Fife routes.

Just to add to what I (and others) have said, I believe four 158s have transferred up to Inverness ex-Glasgow, mainly to strengthen peak services, especially with the Kessock Bridge closure when a lot more people are anticipated to use the trains.

The 158s which are now in the Far North were displaced from the Whifflet services and replaced by 156s made available due to the electrification of Paisley Canal Branch
