ScotRail Credit/Debit and SmartCards not being accepted (Again, Again)

So for at least the third time since Abellio took over the ScotRail franchise they are having issues where they cannot accept payment at TVM's by Credit or Debit card, and now the SmartCard is not working at barriers either.

I cant remember these problems ever happening regularly (if at all) while First ran the franchise. What has changed that has suddenly made credit/debit payments so unreliable.

Oh, and this TVM has a different issue:
