As the thread title suggests, were the ScotRail 314s operated with guard/conductor or were they DOO.

The 314s ran with a Ticket Examiner and DOO for as long as I can remember.

Sometimes when the door was failing to lock, the driver would come up and sort it (or lock it and mark out of use).

They were originally worked by guards but were subsequently converted for Driver Only Operation in the early 90s (though I believe like most DOO stock of the era nothing was actually done to prevent them being operated by a guard should there have been a requirement to do so) so the answer is both.

Excellent. Thank you both.

Out of curiosity what were the modifications made?

Strangely (it seemed to me) while the much older, but refurbished, Class 303s had passenger door close buttons, the 314s never did, meaning every set of doors lying open at termini, sometimes for extended periods such as at Neilston (circa 25 minutes)!

Seems like a bit of an odd choice to me. I wonder what the reasoning was for the lack of buttons on 314s was?
