Why does one of Scotrails 158s have a mixed interior? The first class is the old BR SWT seats. Standard class is Arriva and the fold up seats next to the doors are red SWT. Not to mention the signs which are part Welsh.

South West Trains has loaned two 158s to ScotRail since 2007 but I don't know what has been done to the interior

They aren't loaned. They are leased outright by Scotrail. SWT ended their lease on the two units around the time they received units from TPE.

They just haven't bothered renewing the interior. I quite like it.

It got the "Spotrail" livery pretty quickly though!

I believe they used to work for Central Trains ( later wales and borders/ATW) between Birmingham and Wales so perhaps that is the reason for welsh signage

Wessex and TransPennine also received some of these units no longer needed as ATW took charge of all 175s

Probably one of the ex Wessex Trains 158s in the fleet. All the Wessex 158s had signs in English and Welsh. This dates back to the early years of privatisation when they were operated by Wales and West, which in 2001 was split into Wessex Trains and Wales and Borders (now Arriva Trains Wales).

Do you know the number of it. It would be easier to trace it's history then, perhaps.

There should be two of them, 158786 and 789 were the odd pair of 158s in use with SWT (nominally for portion working to Bristol) prior to the 11 different units arriving from TPE in the 2007 changes.

Part of the reasoning for releasing them was to make the SWT fleet of 158 and 159 all Porterbrook owned.
