I'd wait to see what the results are for Edinburgh before declaring victory just yet..

An 8.6% win for the UK is currently predicted by the ABC's electoral computer (which is a neutral media outlet in this fight, and usually pretty close to right on at extrapolating trends for Australian federal elections and US presidential elections). The ABC is probably a better source than CNN by a margin of 110%.

Salmond appears to be conceding failure, he's changed his Facebook banner to one proclaiming One Scotland. Will he call the pro-UK leaders to concede and congratulate them on their successful campaign, or will they be left hanging and unable to make the victory speeches?

It's over!

Edinburgh has smashed it with a 61.1% win for the UK, and a 10% margin for the overall is in reach.

To those thinking of voting YES to leaving in an EU referendum, i hope you are standing by for the full British State against you.
Enjoy.

Stirling vote NO with 59.71%

Yes need a 3.14% swing to win
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Falkirk vote NO with 53.42%

Yes need 3.19% swing to win...

Sorry Butts :)

You will see if you look back although I voted Yes I hoped No would prevail. :p

If the results were tabulated on a Map of Scotland by the 32 regions you would see overwhelmingly what a victory it was for Better Together. If as I expect Highland Votes no the Yes Colours will be obliterated in a Sea of No.

This is as important a consideration as the number of votes cast, the geographic distribution - ie no North South or Even East West divide.

All the neds in Glasgow and Dundee can crawl back to their holes and learn that the alphabet just not consist of an X :p

As Milliband will be our next pm and has definitely ruled out an EU referendum then that question is irrelevant.

I do hope everyone gives Cameron some credit. Despite huge risks for himself and his party he gave Scotland the opportunity to decide for itself, and trusted in democracy to produce the result he believed in. I very much doubt most leaders in my lifetime would have been as brave.

So, Scotland voted 'NO'.

Was this because of uncertainty of independence or that some voters originally said 'YES', but decided 'NO'?

I wonder how long it will take NotATrainSpott to come on here and provide us with his concession post?

It will take one hell of an upset for any other result.

I wouldn't be so sure, with a possible answer to the West Lothian question around the corner depending on what Cameron does next in the wake of this referendum could help him significantly in the upcoming general election.

It was because the Yes camp were loud and proud - but the No camp were silent but deadly :p

It was because the Yes camp pushed optimistic aspirations and the No camp pushed reality, i.e. the way the world is.

Then a majority of the voters woke up just in time.

Girlfriend is disappointed and so are most Scots I know.

The speech I have to say given by Alex Salmomd was great and much more respect for him as well.

Now will what Westminster said be kept and delivered?

One thing's certain Salmond has run rings around Cameron from day one.
Salmond has got major concessions by losing the vote and Scotland will still carry on getting more money per head than England.

Just heard Danny Alexander saying it wasn't a problem if Scottish mp's voted on English issues because "it's difficult to change" - poor answer.

I'm delighted that the rest of UK will now continue to subsidise Scotland, probably by a higher amount than previously ;)

Last year under the Barnett formula, Scotland got £10,152 per head, Wales got £9,709, and England got £8,529.

You never know, it could even be reduced. If Holyrood is given the power to set taxes Westminster could argue the onus is on them to raise most of the income for their budget and insist the subsidy is reduced. ;)

Salmond won't accept that, he's in the driving seat now.

We shall see, I don't think it will be so one sided as you may think. Especially if Westminster do propose greater devolution across the entire UK.

Greater devolution will be the answer as a way of delaying the inevitable. One day there will be a clear mandate to break up the UK, possibly not in my lifetime but that's the way things are heading in my view.

The push may even come from England rather than Scotland, Wales or NI. One thing I was sure of right from the start when the referendum was agreed was that it was a win win situation for the nationalists.

I think the idea mooted this morning of using Westminster 2 days a week as an English parliament and having an English first minister is a good one just to have parity with the rest of the UK.

Of course it's more money and more government but you can't carry on with England being the only part of the UK unrepresented by it's own assembly.
