Very good point.
In this case I would say that misidentification would have been unlikely, there couldnt have been very many 13 year old kids (in school uniform?) riding around at that time of day.

I would much rather the Police tazer the wrong person than them pussyfoot around the right person who then injures an innocent bystander while the Police are mucking about.

He wasn't in school uniform. so how many schoolchildren would it have been OK to taser (correct spelling) in your esteemed opinion before they found the right one, assuming they ever did? By the time he was arrested it was quite possible other schoolkids could have been travelling. The police by that time had obviously formed an opinion he was unlikely to harm anyone else (they may well have had contact with him by mobile phone and may also have recovered the knife) and the 'detention' may have been by arrangement. This speculation on my part, but what is certain is that the police had good reason for making a low-key arrest which did the job without inconveniencing the other passengers on the train. A taser gun used on a 13 year old might kill them, but you'd no doubt say they had it coming or some such rubbish.

As a former pupil of the school, this type of incident would never of happened during my time at the school, The Chase is one of the better schools, myself being shocked by this incident yesterday.

More seriously, this sort of isolated event can happen anywhere - it just needs one person to over-react ...

We had a stabbing at my Grammar School in the late 60s/ early 70s - didn't say anything about the quality of the school, just one person's irrational behaviour.

Not only that, but one who is happy for anyone (presumably including himself, 455 wouldn't want to be thought a hypocrite would he?) to be arbitrarily tasered whether they've done anything to deserve it or not!

If you bothered to read my posts you will have read that I have been tasered (correct spelling ) and although it wasnt particularly nice (to put it mildly) I would much rather somebody got tasered by accident than let somebody who should have been tasered (correct spelling ) stab some innocent bystanders because the Police wouldnt use a taser (correct spelling ) when they should have done.

But hey lets not let the facts get in the way shall we!

No of course I am not, what a stupid question! :roll:

But as I have posted several times for the hard of understanding, I would much rather the occasional innocent person was tasered accidentally to ensure the Police always tasered people who did need it.

Of course, if people are compliant they wont be tasered anyway, it is only when they 'kick off' that the Police would feel the need to use the taser and I would much rather they used them when they felt necessary than worry about the repercussions and not use it when it was actually necessary.

Police officers undergo rigorous training and testing to ensure they use taser correctly and in the correct circumstances - if they fail this testing they are not allowed to carry taser. They are debriefed after use, and misuse of taser can have serious consequences for the officer(s) involved.

Taser can be used effectively to diffuse a situation without actually being deployed, but it should never even be drawn unless the circumstances are appropriate.
