Does anyone know any scenic bus routes in Scotland which are normally operated with double-deckers? My preference are those of a longer-distance, particularly in the borders region but open to suggestions in other areas.

Stagecoach in Fife service 95 round the coast between Leven and St.Andrews is quite nice, and is usually operated by DDs, with 3 E400s branded.
Stagecoach Strathtay service 57 between Dundee and Perth via Blairgowrie is also a pleasant run in the countryside, and almost always a DD.

The following has decker popping up:
* No36: Perth - Glenrothes
* No23: St Andrews - Stirling.
* No15: Perth - Crieff
* No585: Ayr - Greenock,

The X62, Edinburgh into the Scottish border is mainly operated with deckers. The X95 has been know for a decker to travel the whole route.

If your really lucky you might get a decker on the Stagecoach Fife Express network: Glasgow - St Andrews or Leven - Edinburgh etc.

Deckers are uncommon on First Scotland East's B10 (Buchanan Bus Station - Balfron). ALX400 bodied Volvos & Scania Omnidekkas are the types that are most likely to appear, but Volvo Olympians can still put in the odd appearance.

Second that. Did the B10 from Balfron to Glasgow a couple of years ago on a P-TGD Olym and the views of the city are fantastic. :)

All non low floor stock will be gone by the summer, once the Scania Omnidekka are replaced by the new green buses on the uni route.

I remember doing the 585 last year and that was a midibus.

Is the X77 in Ayr run by double-deckers or artics?

Yes the X77 is run by double-decker coaches. 585 has anything running on it at the moment.

Will almost double deck buses do? X7 Perth- Dundee- Aberdeen has a recent batch of Plaxton Elite interdeck B11r in service, it's a gorgeous run up the coastal section on a fine day.

Some of them are out of service at the moment, while " minor improvement" work is carried out to resolve a number of issues raised by passengers.

You can't sit at the front of the Interdecks, can you? I think the point of a D/D is that we can sit in the prime seats of the top deck. But, yes, if D/Ds ran on the X7 then that would be one of the obvious choices.

It's been a few years since I used Megabus in Scotland, but I did briefly use them to commute from Dundee to Edinburgh*. They frequently used DDs back then.

*After 3 months I gave up, asked for a pay rise (got it) and switched to the train.

Yes you can sit at the front of the Interdecks, it has 4 seats but not in the order you think ;)

Whole point of the Interdeck design is that you can sit at the front over the driver!

I remember the last time I used an Interdeck Megabus coach, we weren't allowed to sit at the front for some reason. I didn't question it at the time and just thought it standard practice.

If that were not the norm then that would probably be one of the prime candidates.

I've seen Interdeck drivers stop passengers sitting in the few seats behind the driver on the lower deck. Banning passengers from sitting at the front upstairs sounds weird, especially given the driver can't see upstairs except through the camera.

He just said not to sit at the front and that is company instruction. It was late so no one questioned him, plus the bus was not heavily loaded so everyone just found seats elsewhere.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a ticket that might be useful to 'join these up' as it were? If one has a spare day in Scotland what day-tickets might be useful to score several of the routes in one go, perhaps that sort of-connect up to each other? Not great for this purpouse, if it's a random chance, or slim chance of getting the double decker. Thanks!

Best bet is the following:

SPT Daytriper: £11.50
Stagecoach East Scotland: £14.30

Those two tickets should cover everything mentions, except for First service into Stirlingshire. You would need Zone 3-5 £10.50 for No10.

More likely to be a single decker, in my experience.

Crieff is my hometown and it all depends on what service the 47 starts off as. Usually if it is a journey starting from Perth as a 15 going to Crieff at say 10.20 or 12.20, it then turns into the 47 and onwards to Stirling.

From my experience as I used to use it every day, it was always an E400 or the ALX400 Tridents...

Whilst the statement re X95 (Carlisle <> Edinburgh) is correct, I have only seen a decker on 2 days in the last 3 years. Usual bus is a leather seat 62reg ADL E300. So I suggest you do not plan on the X95 at all.

I once got a Volvo Olimpian on it end to end, back in the days when the Scania and Volvo B7Rle Were still the regular booked traction, it was a Saturday and Id had Gen that the decker was out and as I was free went for it! It was a good day all round as it was before the introduction of regular 390s on the Edinburgh WCML services so was delighted when one roled in vice 221.

This is highly unlikely to happen again but should it do so, drop everything and do it, its quite a ride!

For anyone in the know on here, is the 15 Perth>Stirling only a decker during termtime? A MAN Inviro worked it yesturday afternoon.

What time was it leaving Crieff for heading to Stirling? The 13:02 and 15:55 from Crieff is usually a decker, at other times its mostly MAN Kinetics...

Appologies for being a pest, but does the 14:45 Service 15/15a from Perth then change to a 47 and run through with the decker to Stirling? Asking as a few people are going for it specially and dont wish to get bowled. Also, out of interest are there any runs the other way i.e Stirling, Creef, Perth that are usually decker opperated? Both these refer to Termtime Weekdays

Of particular interest also is the 12:08 service 47 from Stirling which I think becomes a 15 at Creaf? Am I correct and if so whats likely to work it?
