Don't know how old it is, but I stumbled accross this today. Please delete if it was already posted a while back.
Some interesting points made. I've heard that passengers were even complaining that the seat design was giving them DVT

No - not Driving Van Trailer for the humorous ones ;)

Why would they consider 458s unpopular? I think they are superior comfort-wise to 450s.

458s aren't bad although they are pretty ratty inside from what I can tell.

HC 450s are probably better than Normal 450s - more of the precious 2 + 2 although no FC of course.

I'm a huge believer that 3+2 seating is useless on any form of long distance travel, being only of use on short commuter runs. In my experence, people rarely make use of all 3 seats when they are squeezed together. This could be because of personal space and often because there isn't actually enough room (and this isn't particularly fat people I'm talking about!)

The aisle is much narrower, making it more difficult for large people to both squeeze through the aisles and even sit down, as the seats themselves are narrower. As mentioned on the above site, no trolley service can be provided. There's rarely very much luggage space and tables are limited.

3+2 works well on Stratchlyde Local Lines, where journey times aren't more than 30 minutes and luggage is kept to a minimum, and I'd imagine other routes like the Cross City Line work quite well as well, but on such a long route as mentioned here, it's not really suitable. The services are over one and a half-hours long, sometimes even 2 hours

A 450 to anywhere seems like heaven compared to Cardiff-Portsmouth on a 150/2...

What I don't get is they are suggesting using 444s to Pompey, 450s on suburbans (I guess that means getting rid of all the 455s?) and 458s on the readings....so what do the suggest goes to Weymouth?

Also, are the non-FC 450s being re-numbered 450 5xx yet?

I'm not sure where they got the no trolley service thing from, when I travelled with Chiltern 3+ yrs ago they always managed to get a trolley in between the 3+2 seats on the 165s - and they are only a few centimetres wider!

2+3 seating works on FCC 319s. But not when people decide to put big suitcases on the middle seat which usually blocks the 2 seats opposite so only 1 seat being taken up with 2 seats spare! Theres space for such items, well on the refurbished 319/4s.

That won't happen for a long while, I'm on a busy Surburban line and only get 450s on peaks, during the day its 455s:p.

Good, because us lot would rather have 450s and leave you suburban lot on 455s! Muahahahahahahaha! <D<D<D

These lot on the Pompey route, ALWAYS moaning. Many places in the country don't even have trains serving them. We have to put up with commuting on buses! We'd rather have 450s any day...

450s are alright but I think a lot better when they are doing what the 350s are doing, but they stop too much. 350s seem pretty great on the WCML and I'd take one over a Pendo if they did the same fast journeys. It'd be great if they were more 395 style with an aerodynamic nose and higher top speed though.

But I think these people do have a point. The whole attraction of train travel should be that it is pleasant, and you have room. Given a lot of emphasis is placed on getting people out of cars and domestic airlines, shouldnt the emphasis be on the comparative luxury of the train ? When will these morons at DfT realise when demand grows, capacity must be provided, not squeezing more into existing rolling stock. If that means 16, 20 car trains, then so be it, or even more shocking, how about adding extra capacity to the network so more trains can be run. As has been shown time and again, DfT's only answers to these problems is short term minor improvements to parts of the network (e.g. a WCML that will be full 5 years after its 8 billion upgrade), and moving seats around, ****ing off the passenger and undermining the whole essence of rail travel. Still, at least the fares arent going up 14% ...

Surly you mean a 350. ;)

Point taken - though the point I was making is the 321's don't compare well with either the 350 or 450s.

The sooner the 321's depart from WCML the better. I've never liked them or the 319s on Thameslink. For some reason I always thought the 317s which were on GN always seemed to have better (wider) seats and rode better, though I realise it seems odd because I believe they were all based on each other.

I like it how on the SWT site it actually has information about their trains.
Not seen this on any other TOC's websites. :)

To come to conclusion...it must be you bloody moaning southeners as the seats meet standards :p haha just joking !

317s on GN have different seats to 321s/319s.

317s squeak and make too many noises as if its going to fall apart!

317s seats do fall apart, even on the StanEx units, this doesnt seem to happen much on a 321.

You don't like reliable trains or enough seats then?

I'll be disappointed when they leave the WCML, always prefer to get on one of those if I can out of Euston (when heading to Harrow and Wealdstone or similiar). Particularly since I still need 321402 for sight!
