Saxmundham - Norwich. Can I do a loop?

I'll be in Suffolk next week and staying near Saxmundham. If I buy a return to Norwich will the ticket permit me to go out via Ipswich and return via Lowestoft (or vice versa)?

Also, does anyone who lives near there know what the chances of finding a space in the car park are on a weekday morning after the rush hour?

Tickets are only available routed VIA LOWESTOFT or VIA IPSWICH - there doesn't seem an ANY PERMITTED route for this journey.

If you bought a VIA LOWESTOFT return, you could then ask for the return portion to be excessed to VIA IPSWICH. Any ticket office could do this for you, and should only charge half the difference in price between the VIA LOWESTOFT fare and the VIA IPSWICH fare.

eg you could buy an Anytime Day Return VIA LOWESTOFT for £24.20, and excess the return portion VIA IPSWICH. The Anytime Day Return VIA IPSWICH is £38.20; the difference between the two fares is £14, so you'd pay an extra £7. Total paid £24.20 + £7 = £31.20

You didn't mention your specific travel plans, but you could also choose to do this with the Off-peak Day Return if you're travelling after 0844 Mon-Fri, or with the Off-peak Return for return travel within a month.

Worth noting that you're quite close to the cost of an Anglia Plus Day Ranger (£25) so if you're doing basically any other journeys that day it might be better to just buy one of them instead. Any ticket office should be able to retail it and it's valid after 0815 on a Saxmundham to Ipswich service or otherwise after 0845 more generally (anytime weekends and bank holidays).

They can also be bought on the train if starting from an unstaffed station in the GA area (which applies to Saxmundham).

Not sure what that has got to do (directly) with buying an Anglia Plus Day Ranger - this is what it says on the GA 'Anglia Plus' webpage:

These tickets can be purchased on the day of travel from any staffed Greater Anglia station or from the conductor on the train if you start your journey from an unstaffed station.

Out of interest, what would you define as the "'regional' stations around Norwich"?

This point is that you can legitimately buy on board at any of these stations, even if they are staffed. See GA's Penalty Fares guide.

All stations other than those served by London services - i.e. Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Manningtree etc. I would have thought that is fairly obvious?
