It would be more reasonable for retailers to have a feature where you can re-sell your advance ticket, effectively refunding it, but only in the event that someone actually bought it. It sounds like a whole lot of overhead for little-to-no gain for the retailer though.

Edit: the site also appears to be gone.
Didn't TrainPal try this, along with a whole host of other gimmicks?

I can still see it, and there are some tickets up now
I am currently getting a 'This site can't be reached' message when I try to load the site. However, on another tab I already had open, I can see there are 14 tickets available:
  • 2 x Manningtree - London Liverpool Street, 09:51 27/1/26, £5
  • Stafford - Manchester Piccadilly, 11:03 6/2/26, £10
  • Manchester Piccadilly - Stafford, 17:25 6/2/26, £16
  • Luton Airport Parkway - London St Pancras, 06:27 11/2/26, £5
  • London St Pancras - Luton Airport Parkway, 15:45 11/2/26, £6
  • Newcastle - London Kings Cross, 16:55 19/2/26, £20
  • London Kings Cross - Newcastle, 07:30 23/2/26, £20
  • Glasgow Central - Crewe, 05:48 6/3/26, £11.11
  • Crewe - Cardiff Central, 09:10 6/3/26, £22.22
  • Cardiff Central - Manchester Piccadilly, 13:51 8/3/26, £22.22
  • Manchester Piccadilly - Glasgow Central, 17:26 8/3/26, £5
  • Newcastle - London Kings Cross, 16:55 12/3/26, £20
  • London Kings Cross - Newcastle, 09:30 16/3/26, £20
It would appear quite likely that the GLC - CRE, CRE - CDF, CDF - MAN and MAN - GLC tickets were listed by the same individual, as they would provide a return trip between GLC and CDF, and similarly for the pairs of tickets e.g. LTN - STP and vice versa, so I would estimate that a maximum of 6 individuals have listed these tickets.

What happens if I board at a station with open barriers and then when revenue scan a ticket purchased from this site it doesn't work and I get an MG11 written up and prosecution?

At least with gig tickets the worse that happens is you're not able to get into the venue.
Even with a station that has gatelines, I'm not convinced most do much real checking of validity beyond looking for the barcode to be "valid".
