Saudi arabias railway 70% complete

i dont have much info, but it will go from east to west of the kingdom, plus theres plans to link other cities together via high speed electrified rail on the eastern side of the kingdom.

Is this exciting news for us rail enthusuasts, i'd love to travel on the new high speed railway when I go out to the middle east.

You'll need a business reason though; unless they've changed the rules you can't get into Saudi Arabia for purely tourist purposes.

I wonder if that level crossing at Abqaiq is still the same.

When it was closed the cars would line up both sides across the road. When the they opened it was like a Le Mans start in both directions.

For me, discretion was the better part of valour. I just parked up and let them get on with it.

peter you are right, i think its only special groups or visits to the kingdom, even though every1 i know has been to united arab emirates, and two people i know are going to be moving out to dubai itself because of the falling rates etc.
