Does anyone have any pictures or information on the 'under construction' high speed network in Saudi Arabia? Beyond the Wiki article and the not-properly-loading official website I've found it next to impossible to find anything out about it. Obviously it's a difficult country to get information out of but there aught to be something! Information/images on the commuter system around Mecca would be nice too although I have been able to find a bit about that.

When I was out there we weren't supposed to photograph anything (although we did - discreetly) though that was the 'eighties. Apart from the security aspect you have be careful about people getting in shot, particularly Saudi women.

Thus you are only likely to get official photos or manufacturers publicity - certainly no enthusiast photographers. If the police took exception you'd probably be thrown in the clink and the key thrown away. (They dont always worry too much about habeas corpus)

Which reminds me of the level crossing at Hofuf but that's another story.

Never ceases to amaze me how Saudi Arabia's appalling human rights record goes completely unreported in Britain, in contrast to Syria, Libya, Egypt, Zimbawbwe. Too many defence & oil contracts at stake...

Indeed brian, was speaking to someone the other night and he wondered why I didn't want to go to the UAE or Saudi countries at all...
