Saturday Nights

Does anyone else think that they are the worst time of the week? Unless you have a huge social circle or just love going out drinking/clubbing, it's really quite an isolating time of the week, particularly if you're around the city centre. And it's just so busy (though that also goes for Saturday afternoons TBF). I also imagine for those on here who work on the trains that it ain't a fun time to be working.

I also feel that with more people, there is a much greater chance of running into folks that aren't particularly pleasant. I was just out and was going to go to the cinema and was buying sweets in Sainsburys for it. Some guys started mouthing some really judgemental comments about me and how I look so I just bought the sweets and went home as quickly as possible. I would never encounter this on a weeknight.

I know it sounds trivial compared to other world topics but does anyone else just hate Saturday nights with an absolute passion?

No, I work shifts across all 7 days so don't particularly dislike any of them, and for every negative there is a positive- you just need to find it. Saturday is a good night to travel (quiet) or go food shopping for example. I don't enjoy being on the late night Saturday trains sometimes out of Leeds, but sometimes they can be just as bad on another night, or you can make the situation better with headphones. I'm working early tomorrow, so just happy to have a quiet one after being at the football earlier and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

No i don't hate them, i've very seldom been one to go out on them (friday nights used to be the time when i did that kind of thing). I tend to stay in and home and watch football.

Yeah I'm not a fan of going out on Saturday nights either to be honest, trains are packed, noisy, rowdy etc. Sunday and even Friday are better.

With the extended congestion charge hours in London I have been using public transport rather more and haven't noticed anything different about Saturdays.

I have never been a pub/club/party person nor cinema/theatre.

Looking back 20 - 40 years the entertainment was the TV ( e.g. Generation Game, 321, Blind Date, Challenge Anneka, The Paul Daniels Magic Show ) which to me gradually went downhill. The substitute first was DVD's and reading but more recently the internet.

Regardless it should not be intimidating never mind risky to walk in a town or city centre.

Except Ant&Dec which is superb Saturday night entertainment. I’m quite fond of both The Wheel & The Wall too. I prefer to go it’s Saturday afternoons/early evening these days then finish off with a few more drinks when I get home.

For many years I have preferred weekends for my transport hobby, especially Saturdays. This is because I associate transport then more with leisure than buainess travel. So Saturday nights can be nice online on transport forums!

Decades ago when I worked in retail I found Saturdays to be the worst day of the week. It was too busy for a start. Added to that it seemed to bring out the dregs into the town centre. A few nasty sorts would put in an appearance after consuming a few pints of lager and get abusive in the store. The pubs had the same problem and some would close earlier in the afternoon to avoid the bother. There was an unpleasant atmosphere in the shopping centre which could be described as Saturday Fog. Miserable families trooping around the shops aimlessly. The only good thing was you could skive off to the stockroom for a while and not be missed as the manager was pre-occupied.

When I moved on to Oxford Street this was not the case, although it was busy it seemed the dross could not be bothered to make the journey.

I drive trains. I forgot what a Saturday night looked like until last year. My new job makes me happy to see the weekends as they used to be. Many, many years ago.

Oh and Saturday daytime (probably around 1640) are giving me a heart condition and will probably put me in an early grave !!

I’m not fan of going into town on a Friday or Saturday night. It’s just too hectic for me these days.
I prefer to have people round or go to a friends house, or go away in the van with friends in their van and that kind of thing.

Historically, of course, Saturday night was the one night of the week when the working man could let his hair down (metaphorically in the days of short back and sides) without having to get up for work the next morning. The working week was Monday to Saturday lunchtime, which is why football matches kicked off at 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, giving people time to get home from work and get to the ground (everything being much more local in those days, hardly any "away" fans except at local derbies).

Shifts permitting I enjoy my Saturday nights out. I never been interested in city centre areas or clubs so stick to either of my two local pubs.
