Just been looking at prices from kings cross to aviemore. Have come up with some strange pricing

Did you add the cheaper priced ticket to your basket?

If so then the reservation at that price is being held for you and if that is the last of the quota for the tier then nobody else will be able to buy it unless enough time passes for the booking engine to release it.

None of the prices had been added to any baskets. I looked at the EC and SR sites first. Then VT and TL when the cheaper prices came up. Went back to the EC site and still had the higher price.

The £104.50 advance on East Coast (departure 11:10) is telling you to walk to Euston and get a train to Edinburgh from there, whereas Virgin Trains gives you an advance on the direct East Coast service (departure 10:00) for £77.50. Ironic!

On the East Coast website, if you specify "via Newcastle", then it'll sell you an advance for £75.95 on the 10:00 King's Cross - Perth and then change for a bus, which is what you get on Virgin Trains (but with the East Coast online discount).

Don't ask me why it doesn't default to this train without putting a "via" point in.

The VT journeys from Euston are sufficiently quicker on this date (an hour or so give and take) for the WebTIS sites to not return the KGX routes by default.

As Searle says via Newcastle will show this one. Or if that doesn't work for any similair searches avoid Euston will prevent any of the VT options coming out at all.

Although all the sites are using the same data which options to actually show is sometimes down to subjective choices on journey time, number of changes etc.

Thanks for all your help guys. You learn something new everyday esp when it comes to online bookings. Thanks to a 41% staff discount. Just managed to book the 1000 from Kgx 1st class at £45.75 under two weeks before departure. Can't grumble at that now.

The via newcastle trick worked a treat.
