London Underground's Metropolitan Railway electric locomotive Sarah Siddons and the London Transport Museum's 1938 Tube Stock unit will be in use on the Metropolitan line on Sunday 14th September 2008.

Sarah Siddons will be operating shuttles between Harrow and Amersham top and tailing the 4-TC set with a class 20. The 1938TS unit will be operating shuttles between Harrow and Watford via Amersham.

I've got my ticket!

When I booked, they asked if I wanted to reserve a seat on one of the last trains from Amersham back to Harrow (so I didn't get stranded at the former), so for anyone booking tickets, it's probably worth having a look at the timetable first deciding which one you want to use.

The Sarah Siddons repaint (which wasn't done as part of the original Metrodebt overhaul) looks really impresive. The repaint of the Mark Ones looks very odd though! They have been painted to look like wooden coaches...

Why did metronet overhaul her anyway didn't think anyone but the Transport museum depot cared about heritage underground stuff???

I agree the repaint is fantastic.
I saw her at the LTM Depot Open Day in March and you could still see the outline of the old 'London Transport' lettering, but that seems to have been sorted now.

The coaches have presumably been painted to look like Metropolitan Railway teak-liveried coaches, as woulld have run with Sarah in the past. The ends don't look quite right though, having not been repainted to match.

They owned her at the time I understand (must have been part of the Metronet Test Trains Unit). The refurb was done before the money ran out and they went into PPP Administration!
There was a special handover event and train last year.

There are a helluva lot of staff on LUL and the InfraCos that are into the heritage side!

We can she has been altered so she can use 3rd rail aswell as 4th rail.
her and that class 71 are the only locos left that can only use 3rd rail.

I guess it's not impossible just gotta wait for a big enough event down the southern for the NRM and LTM to team up there prized leccy traction.

The best thing ever would be for a southern themed event with.............

Class 73 with Cargo D BR blue mk2's
Class 33202 with whatever
A thumper

As much as I would like to see that happen, I don't think it ever will. The need to fit TPWS and OTMR to Sarah Siddons if it was to be used on National Network would pretty much kill off such a thing from happening. Plus a yellow warning panel would have to painted on the front which would ruin it's appearance.

Don't get me wrong love all the bullied loco's I just like the Leccys even more.

I don't think a yellow warning panel would be required as she probably has 'grandfather rights' to run without (having operated on the National network before privitisation).

The biggest problem, I suspect, would be her slow speed and the risk of her 'gapping' on breaks in the juice rails. There aren't so many spare locos now that could come giver her a push, so you'd probably need another loco on the back of the train as insurance.

Which is why LUL put a class 20 on the back! :grin:
As well as it being a requirement for all non normal passenger trains to be "top and tailed".

Althought this is an oldish thread I thought that the 4TCs that Sarah Siddons carried around were sold/scrapped? Although I could of got the wrong of the stick and be completely wrong!

Nope!

Sarah was refurbished by Metronet and handed to London Underground (though is still operated by Metronet Special Trains Unit).

The 4TC was recently re-painted in a faux teak livery which looked/looks bizarre!
