How many more young soldier's lives have to be lost in Afghanistan??

Is the loss of of these brave lads worth it?

Someday, I hope it is, or they lives would have been lost in vain.

We're in Afghanistan to peace keep. I feel the losses are although very sad, worthwhile in the long run for the stability of a country.

Wrong mission though. The war was bloody wrong as well. I hate cross-Atlantic co-operation, but there we go.

^ I'm with Pumbaa. I do not feel that the war is just; America have gone to Afghanistan (and Iraq for that matter) for the wrong reasons, perhaps with a hidden agenda, but mostly because they felt the need to stick their noses in.

The whole thing sounds a bit like Vietnam to me; and I fear that it shall have a similar result. That all said, seeing as how we're in Afghanistan now, it's only honourable to finish what we have started.

Sounds more like Afghanistan - Russian version - to me. Sadly, US will not be able to get out if it seems they are doing worse than the Russians. What beats me is that there is one sure way to undermine the Taliban, boost the economy and address a problem throughout the world - and they won't even consider it. Buy the opium crops, that are currently being sold to the Taliban who sell it on to illegal drug manufacturers at a vast profit. That way you make the farmers dependent on, and hence supportive of, the new regime, cut off funds from the Taliban, cut off a large proportion of raw materials from the druggies - and increase the basic raw material for morphine which is in very short supply across the world. And, incidentally, shorten the war.
