Is it still there? I recently applied for a job with DB based at the Saltley Deopt, and there are contradicting images on Google maps as to whether or not there is actually anything still there!

Can any body enlighten me? Also, what sort of traffic is around there?

Thanks,
Keiran

It is a bunch of portakabins now, the old depot was knocked down. Nothing originates or goes there (apart from the Lickey banker) so it is mostly crew changes at Landor St.

Cheers, any idea why they'd have groundstaff based there then?

On a train somewhere in Europe
The role will include the arrival, preparation and dispatch of rail services in the West Midlands, Saltley and surrounding customer locations.
It isn't just covering Saltley, probably includes places like Washwood Heath, Castle Bromwich and any other locations that DB serve either now or in the future; maybe even engineers trains on a work-site if their groundstaff still do that sort of thing.

Just for the record I think Washwood Heath yard is now closed.

On reflection, I think you are correct - but there is a stone terminal which I think is still in use on the opposite side of the line; what I was trying to point out was that the job does not involve being tied to one location. One thing I did notice was that there was no mention of being able to drive a road vehicle on the advert, unlike some of the other jobs on the site, so maybe all the work is concentrated in the immediate area.

The stone terminal is still very much in use but it's quite a walk from the Saltley site, not to mention the number of trains that run past and the H&S issues. However, I agree that the job is unlikely to be tied to one location.

With Bescot still open I'm surprised that Saltley still exists even in its current form.

I assume then it'd just be booking on at Saltley?

I noticed the bit about it being mobile, but as you say, no mention of road vehicles, as you'd expect. Maybe just an oversight on their part.

In order to steer this away from being a thread that should be in careers, what sort of traffic do DB run in the area?
