WSMR diversion next week
Network Rail are carrying out essential maintenance to the railway and will be closing the line between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury at various times from Saturday 20th November until Sunday 28th November. This means that Wrexham & Shropshire trains will be diverting via Crewe and Stafford on certain days, and train times will be changed on days where the route is still accessible but capacity is limited.

Track work at cosford, obviously same effect on ATW & LM

Seems incredible the line should be closed mid week as well as W/Ends

Sometimes there are jobs that are too big for a weekend. Some jobs take so long to set up, and have long clear up times, that there would be no time to do the actual work.

Get real- this stuff HAS to be done.

Problems, aren't they something that is unexpected, as opposed to planned closures?

I'm not normally so unfriendly, but have you really thought about setting up a RailCymru instead, where you and like minded individuals can whine freely about routes you give misplaced importance to?

It's mostly as Oxley Box is coming out then (on the 28th in theroy anyway). Salop-Wolves as an important link to wales as it is also has the Crewe diversion so not the end of the world. There is a lot of track alterations going on at Oxley, mostly to the yard I think looking at all the panels lying about there. Signalling will be controlled by West Mids SCC & our 390's will be outstabled at various places during the change over.

Shame the Wellington to Stafford via Newport line was closed, that would have been handy in situations like this...

...our 390's will be outstabled at various places during the change over.

Do you happen to know where the 390s will be going, anywhere interesting?

No where interesting at all! :D Bham, Inter, Cov & Stafford are all I have been told so far.

I was going to say, P6 at Stafford is penned in to stable. I don't know if you sign into the Royal Mail line at Stafford? I know 390s are cleared into it, but seem to remember the only men who could actually put trains through there were few and far between, ie ex-BR Wolves, Crewe and Brum.

No work at Cosford it is all down to the resignaling between Codsall and the South side of Stafford road Junction, there will be Temporary Block Working over the section with a headway of 20 minutes for each train and if the slots are not there for WSMR they will have to divert! It is quite a major project with the closure of Oxley SB and, yes, the line does need to be closed, when the resignalling took place between Telford and Codsall the line was closed continuously for 9 days!

As a result of this closure, WSMR trains are taking an incredible five hours to travel between Wrexham and London this weekend, which is an average speed of about 35mph.

I have an Advance ticket that clearly states an arrival time in London of 21:27, but it now appears that my train won't arrive until 22:31. I asked WSMR if I could get a refund but they refused - as usual, if a passenger changes his travel plans he is penalised but a TOC can change a passenger's travel plans to their heart's content without penalty.

Yep sign all the roads including the ex RES one. I have actually been in there before now with one of the ECS Euston to Central Rivers Via Stafford moves.
