Salisbury to Hampstead

Hello,

I'm travelling Salisbury to Hampstead Heath (Overground) via Clapham Junction this Saturday, returning via Belsize Park tube and Waterloo. My plan is to buy a return Salisbury to Zones 1&2 travelcard. Is there any cheaper way of doing it?

"Outboundary" Travelcards always include Zones 1-6. On a Saturday you'd buy the Super Off Peak Day Travelcard at £45.80.

You can save a whole pound by splitting at Basingstoke (Off Peak Day Return SAL-BSK, Day Travelcard from BSK). Cheaper, but less convenient, would be to buy a Salisbury-Feltham Super Off Peak Day Return Route: Not Via London (£36.60), stopping short at Clapham Junction and using Oyster or contactless within London (£1.50 to Hampstead Heath, £2.90 return from Belsize Park). Total fare £41. Of course this means having to touch out at the gateline at CJ.

You don't say whether you have a Railcard - these are the undiscounted fares. If you hold a Railcard which cannot be added to Oyster (e.g. Network or Family), then the saving from using Oyster is diminished (but still saves ~£2).

Thanks for that. No railcard, but I have a pre pay Oyster card somewhere.

A Network Railcard might be worth considering, unless you travel by train very infrequently. Three trips to London would more than pay for the card.

Back in the days of the regular rail commute, I used to have a Gold Card and do miss it. However many of the now infrequent journeys I make since I moved are outside the network area, such as Salisbury to Bath.
