Salisbury-Paddington open return

I need to get to Paddington from Salisbury tomorrow off peak, and back the day after, evening peak. I don't fancy sweating it out on the Bakerloo line, the only routes that National Rail is offering me are London Terminals direct assuming onwards via Bakerloo, and via Westbury which won't generate a fare. Is the London Terminals ticket valid via Reading? The Routing Guide is giving me a headache!

Seems to be - the forum site will sell an anytime return for £106. Itinerary - change at Basingstoke and Reading.

Can the journey be done slightly cheaper with 2 x (appropriate) singles? Maybe a Super Off Peak Single + an Anytime Day Single?

Also, might the journey be eligible for Network Railcard discount?

The journey itself can be done with a super off peak open return (I think). Are there any restrictions on this in the evening peak ex Waterloo or Paddington?

Possibly not valid if leaving between 1600 and 1900 (inclusive).

Indeed, you always come after with a strong feeling that you've just lost a chunk of your life that you'll never get back.

Although when it is chaotic on GWR you know that any trains running will be jam packed. Sometimes it is announced that all trains towards Paddington are stopped with no idea of how long that will be for.

Going to Waterloo means that you are almost certainly going to get a seat even if the journey is endless with relentless announcements. Only to be used in extremis as it is reminder of why you normally go to Paddington.
