Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but it's intrigued me for a while...

I travelled last year from Belfast to Sheffield via Glasgow and the cost with a railcard was 30 odd quid. The standard fare for Sail Rail. When you equate that's a 2 hour ferry, 1 hour bus, 1 hour train and then a 5 hour train that's quite a good price. I get that the sail rail prices are done on 'zones' as it were.

If I was to do the same journey tomorrow, it again would be that price. But if I was to get the 17:00 from Glasgow to Sheffield, you're looking at nearly double the price for that journey than if you buy the sail rail.

The question I'm asking is this; what is there to stop people buying a sail rail and not actually using the boat section? The tickets print out as usual, and when on the train I wasn't asked once to prove I'd been on the boat. There must surely be something to stop people getting a single from Glasgow to Sheffield/London etc for 30 quid when the actual tickets are 70 quid plus by themselves?:?:

The tickets would soon be removed from sale if they were abused. Break of journey is also not permitted, although it is hard to enforce.

This topic has been done to death on here and people keep asking this very same question. Break of journey is not permitted with the sail rail ticket neither is starting short. As has been stated the ticket will be taken from sale if it is abused.
