SailRail confusion

Stena have only recently started to sell limited tickets online. My understanding is that you can buy the ticket with them at Belfast or over the phone to/from other destinations and they can be collected at UK rail stations or posted.. They have always said that if you want tickets to NI rail stations destinations to buy them at main UK stations as they did not sell them.

Irish ferries allow you to book sail rail on line from Irish stations (not Northern Ireland) and collect tickets at Dublin Port to all Uk stations. May be able to from Uk by telephone & email. Not sure how you get to Dublin port without train ticket!

The Stena website now states (since the move to Cairnryan) that the only options are stations in Scotland to Belfast, or stations in England and Wales to Dublin or Rosslare. Not sure about Irish Ferries though.

It looks that way when you first go onto the webpage at http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/rail-and-sail/ as the 'where are you travelling to' drop down list only offers 'Northern Ireland from Scotland' if you are travelling to NI. However if you select this option the 'which station are you travelling from' drop down list includes a 'all other stations' option. If you select this and complete the rest of the page you are then taken to another page that has all the fares from England listed so they are there but are somewhat hidden.

Thanks for that link! I bought a pair of sail/rail tickets from London to Dublin, but didn't realize the rail portion of the tickets get physically sent in the mail. That'll teach me to read the fine print, I suppose... I'm in the United States, does anyone know if Stena will mail the tickets overseas? Or is there some kind of confirmation number I can use to pick the tickets up when I get to the UK?

I suppose I could call them tomorrow, but I'm hoping one of the experts here will know the answer. Thanks!

If you used this link you are booked with Irish Ferries not Stena. Irish ferries are good so don't worry. Google seat61 Ireland if you want a description of the journey. Suggest you email Irish Ferries and ask them for a work around. sailrail@irishferries.com They may be able to arrange for you to collect them at a station e.g. London Euston if you are coming from Londonf

Well here; http://www.stenaline.co.uk/ferry/rail-and-sail/ (after putting in the journey details and on the next page), is says that if you have booked more than 7 days in advance they will be posted to the UK address you provided, or if you book less than 7 Days in advance they will be avalible as "ticket on departure".

So I think it comes down to wheathervyou provided a UK address at the time of booking or not, either way it is a 1 through ticket with reservations for the different parts so it should all come together.

I did not provide a UK address, so ticket on demand sounds like where I've ended up. My ferry ticket, which was e-mailed to me, includes an 8 digit booking reference number. Is that the number I'll use to pick up my rail ticket?

(Sorry, I don't know why this process is so confusing to me...)

A combination of numbers and letters? If yes, that sounds like a ToD code.

The Stena site states there are 2 different numbers for stena booking number & rail ticket collection reference : see "Your tickets please read" half way through the booking process on the right, I would email Stena to clarify your situation.

It's 8 numbers only - no letters.

Ah well, I'll take the advice and give in and email Stena. Thanks again for everyone's help!
