Sail Rail fishguard ferry cancellations

Hi all,

Booked from London to Rosslare via Fishguard on Monday. Should they cancel the ferry what alternative arrangements can be expected for a sail rail passenger? Do they transfer is to Irish ferries route from pembroke?

It would be up to the ferry operator (i.e. Stena Line) to re-route you at the earliest opportunity and provide you with refreshments and (where necessary) overnight accommodation, under EU Regulation 1177/2010. The latter obligation wouldn't apply if the disruption is due to severe weather.

When this happened to me, the only advice on JourneyCheck was not to travel to Fishguard, with a link to this page: https://tfw.wales/important-information-about-your-journey The closure of Holyhead at the time meant Stena’s phone lines were understandably swamped, and rail ticket office had no reservations left until after Christmas, which I don’t think normally ever happens for Fishguard.

In the end, I just followed the generic TfW advice and turned up for “the next available service”, which was the night crossing. I don't buy Advances so it was accepted no questions asked as expected, without even showing the reservation. I don’t know what would actually have happened if I had gone all the way to Fishguard Harbour for the booked time, I suspect Stena would have sorted something but it's pretty remote.

Not sure exactly when you are talking about or which period of disruption, sadly we have had numerous over the last 2 years. Stena ran a largely unadverised bus from Holyhead to Fishguard during the period when Holyhead port was closed

This shouldn't be a problem for you, Stena Adventurer has returned from maintenance and resumed service on Dublin Holyhead, Stena Nordica is now in Fishguard and resuming normal service on that route with the 01.30 tonight.
