It may be too late once they are traced, the look boxed and if this is the case there will be operating instructions with them

How hi-tech are these? Can individual handsets just be blocked (similar to how a mobile network can block a handset).

If they are even remotely modern, it seems a very bad decision to not include such a function.

I have just taken the time to report this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250646835077&_trksid=p 2759.l1259) item to the British Transport Police via their 0800 (40 50 40) number.

She said it will be passed onto the BTP Control Room and theft records will be checked etc...

I have been given a reference number.

I'm disappointed that with the number or reports to ebay (both from members of this forum and others) that the item is still up for sale and has not yet been taken down.

Whether stolen or not, they are clearly part of current railway operating equipment which in its self is against ebays policies to sell.

For once my eBay login can have some use... I've reported it on banned item / safety grounds.

To be fair I wouldn't be that suspicious if he was selling a laptop without selling the phones. If the Press found out about this there would be a huge sensationalist story about how a terrorist may be able to use one of them.

From the EBay viewpoint the item is probably not banned:
It is CE Marked
The Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) is signed up for WEEE
The GSM-R frequency is over the minimum requirement set by EBay

From the stolen goods viewpoint there is nothing to suggest that the item would not be sold with marketable title given the potential for Fastline's demise to have resulted in the sale of the equipment on the open market.
It is worth contemplating that normally with an auction from a non-online site the buyer is indemnified along with the auctioneer from prosecution for handling stolen goods under the terms of the auction. This is why there is such interest in provenance of antiques as it reduces the risk of anyone having to pay out.

If Network Rail has purchased these it is probably because the item offers good value for money, EBay claim to have plenty of corporate purchasers using them so maybe this suggests one of those is Network Rail.

I do wonder if the Safety Criticality is overstated, perhaps it is Safety Essential or Safety Related? I'd be somewhat concerned if the design allowed for a single rogue transmitter to result in a critical failure mode.

Sadly I too wasn't in time to see the auction itself so can only go on the previous posts.
