Hi folks,

Am new here so go gentle with me. I hope you can help please.

I am thinking of applying for a job with NR to be an entry level Technician on S&t.

Does anyone have any idea what the job involves or has done this and has any experience of it good or bad? The description given is a little vague.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
"Responsible for keeping up-to-date, reading, learning and putting instructions affecting safety into practice.
Inspections of equipment and systems for safety defects.
Performing and recording results of safety tests on critical equipment and systems.
Guiding others on safety matters.
Assisting others in safety testing."

Assuming you're on the Signal side rather than the Telecom, then you'll be in a gang with a Senior Tech or Tech Officer, and an Assitant Tech.

If your're on Faults and Maintenance (F&M), you'll be esponsible for maintenance and repairs of signalling equipment, including signals, points and track circuits. It's outdoor work mainly, it can be cold and wet! You'll be doing shifts and that'll include nights and weekends.

You might be on New Works, which would be things like laying new cables, wiring relay cabinets, installing new points (normally overnight job).
