Hi all,

I was on one of the XC HST sets yesterday from Plymouth to Burton, in coach C in the seating area there was the letter 'S' in a circle at one end of the carriage (up on the left where the Toilet Engaged sign is - I think!), and the letters 'S' and 'P' alongside each other in circles at the other end of the carriage in a similar position.

I didn't take a photo, but being on there for 4 hours made me wonder what the letters meant!!

Any ideas?!

I wonder could the P indicate the position of the priority seats at that end of the saloon? This is purely a guess.

In the TGS
P indicates a CDL (Central Door Locking) panel is provided for Guard use on that side at that end of the coach.

S indicates that the CDL panel is equipped for Selective Door Opening (SDO) so the Guard can choose to open doors ahead or behind of that location. Unlike GWR and ex-GC HSTs at EMT the SDO keyswitch is not provided at each CDL panel.

Thanks for that - it's a question I've often wondered.

That said, they've only come in in the last 18 months or so and before that there were no stickers, so quite how they coped before I don't know!

(Its actually a very sensible idea, guess it washes it's face if it even avoids one delay due to a location having a different type of panel than anticipated.)
