Rye - Gatwick

Have some friends travelling in a few weeks and looking for some advice:

Rye - Gatwick on 15th October, arriving at 1630 at the latest
Gatwick - Rye on 21st travelling after 1730

Aware there are replacement buses on the 21st affecting the Marshlink via Rye but ultimately looking for the best value fare(s). Currently advising them to avoid using Trainline and had a look at brfares.com but hoping for some expert advice on the matter.

Off Peak Return would be £32.70 before any applicable railcard discount. Choice of routes from Rye Sussex to Gatwick Airport, either via Polegate or via Edenbridge.

If one person has a Network Railcard, and everyone travels together, then you can take up to 3 adults with you and they also get up to 1/3 off their fare.

Not really much to say about train fares from Gatwick Airport to Rye as the tickets are on Southern's flat fare scale of Coastway tickets. The off-peak return is £32.70.

Did consider Groupsave but only two travelling, thank you though.

Have suggested the Off-peak return valid via Polegate or Edenbridge, they're going to look into getting a Two Together Railcard as well to bring the price down a bit. Thanks for the help, am grateful and so are my friends.

On the 21st there are Rye to Ashford International Shuttles leaving at XX50. This would be the quickest journeytime 2 hr 26 changing at Ashford, Tonbridge and Redhill.
Route Polegate/ Edenbridge tickets are valid that way. (Some people don't realise that the shortest route from Rye to Tonbridge (and therefore Edenbridge) is via Ashford and not Hastings).

Yes noticed the few weeks closure of the Ore tunnel necessitating this. Have advised to avoid the Redhill route due to the unreliability of Thameslink, just hope the replacement bus doesn't prove equally as bad...friends are car people so hopefully they have a good experience of the railway for their trip

Redhill from Tonbridge to Gatwick isnt usually a problem. Whilst the official conection is the Thameslink train a few minutes later there is a Great Western Service thats on the same platform (1) that the Tonbridge train terminates on. It reverses on the south end of the platform. In fact if youve got a lot of luggage it's probably for the sake of 10 minutes worth getting the GWR train rather than the drag through the subway to platform 3.
Rail Replacement isnt usually a problem for Rye-Hastings but theres also 2 service buses an hour from outside Rye Station to outside Hastings station, Stagecoach 100,101. The 101 particularly is quite scenic. Depends on where in Rye they are staying but for the sake of £2 the service buses might actually be a better option.
