I remember from my childhood two rusting steam engines sat in the Dyke Road Drive sidings circa 1986.
Does anyone a recall what the locos where and what became of them?
I have a vague recollection there was a standard tank and a Bulleid pacific although that could be well off the mark!

Yes, the opposite side of the line and a bit further south just under the bridge.

Yes, I recall them being there for a while (I kind of associated it with the time when the final steam locos at Barry were getting moved off to various restoration projects ahead of the clearing of the Barry scrap yard site - but I may be conflating that in

I also thought there was standard tank that you used to see there - maybe that got moved earlier so is not in the picture or I am misremembering.

my memory).

It was shame the plane to use the old Pullman car works came to nothing and I think the site was damaged by fire / arson etc, but it would always have had problem with access to the site etc

Towards the end of this page is a bit of info on that:

Both of those 2 Merchant Navy class locos seem to be still under restoration albeit at what sounds like a relatively slow rate, for obvious reasons relating to cost, volunteers etc - but I do with them well

Not the most immediate updates but this site gives an idea of progress. Also pics on there indicate it was at Barry in March 1988 but in Brighton by July 1989
eg

Good to know they are still about :)
Looking at the site you linked it appears this standard tank was once destined for Brighton after Barry:

perhaps this explains your memory (but not mine!)?

Thanks for that link - maybe I read about it at the time, hence my recollection, but didn't actually see it in Brighton. Interesting restoration story and nice to see it brought back from its Barry condition.
