Going past Prestwick’s (PIK) main runway I spotted these devices around 15 metres apart - and it looked as though it was some form of perimeter or security protection. If so, how do they work?

Many thanks - quite impressive device - internal power, lighting, cellular comma and audio. Since there’s no price mentioned anywhere I could see, the cost of a single one must be astronomica!

Same features as a Ring door bell, which functionality costs around £100.

Probably costs pennies in China, but by the time several layers of middle management and government guff kicks in costs millions.

Whenever I see one of those things I can't help but think of them as being a slightly less shooty and chatty version of the turrets from Portal and Portal 2:

Indeed. I've seen them on platforms at various stations between Barrhead and GLC - maybe related to electrification works.

I see they refer to them affectionately as ‘Daleks’ odd as they’re not tri-peds but as PIK they appeared to have multiplied. I walked from the old cross-runway access road westwards to the station and they stretched into the distance - I stopped counting when I got to 40. There must be over 100 in place. Useful that the internal battery is supposed to last over 8 years!

You see them all over construction sites. I have been shouted at by one on two occasions when walking on a public right of way. A person complained when one on a HS2 worksite did the same to her in 2021:

A walker in England has been left furious after a HS2 perimeter intrusion detection system apparently reported her to police for walking on a public footpath.

Marian Allder and her husband were walking their cockapoo between Berkswell and Ballsall Common when they encountered a rather strange experience. The area between Coventry and Solihull is popular with walkers due to its picturesque scenes and general tranquillity.

However, their pleasant Sunday morning stroll turned into anything but when ear-splitting sirens and an authoritative voice with a strong Northern Irish accent blew away all hope of a peaceful walk,

I spotted the same thing at Hamilton Central train station. I was thinking it was something to do with ASB as that station in particular seems to suffer badly from it.
