Run 8

Has anyone played the American train simulator called Run8? The features and physics look interesting as well as the multiplayer. Its $40 (£24) for the base game with a 140 mile route. I'm not normally into foreign railways but this simulator looks good. If anyone has it then I would love to know what it is like.

I have Run 8 and its a very good indie Sim. If youre into multiplayer, this sim leads the way with its diversity and realism in co-op communications and operations. Unfortunately the developers have gone down the road that Dovetail are doing and adding expensive DLC. Also unlike even Railsim where you get three, you get one route initially. Want another route, shell out $40. Also, the graphics are substandard but i can overlook that since it runs well for most computers. If you're a fan of the US railroading scene and have a grasp on railroad operations, this is a good Sim to have.

To be honest, I think have gone down a different route entirely.

Dovetail have always provided the tools necessary for anyone to create their own content. Whether this be through the route and scenario editors, or providing developer tools for 3D modelling by way of new shaders. As you will know, this allows third party developers to essentially create for free should they wish to do so.

Run8 is the complete opposite as far as I can see, and therefore hasn't had any appeal for me, it's a closed shop. That is unless you want to become an 'official' third party developer, in which case you will be given the tools to develop but have no option other than to sell.
