Lancaster?
Put one of TPE's new stripey-toothpaste 350/4s alongside and the combination would look truly dreadful...

Which is the day after the local and European elections. Who makes the announcement. DfT or Stephen Hammond, the minister?

Stock Exchange announcements are usually in the early hours before they open.
A very brief item on the DfT web site appears during the morning, usually penned by the Sec of State (McLoughlin).
There is no parliamentary sitting to worry about, so no oral announcement.
Actually with the politicos variously celebrating or crying, Friday might not be a good day for an announcement, and then we are into a Bank Holiday weekend.

Rumors in my workplace seem to agree. Different is for me its not just a uniform change.

Sadly, thats the case on my patch as well and for our workplace that is the worst possible result.

The FCC MD issues a briefing today indicating that no decision had been made, and as has been mentioned on here, it would be at 7am one morning.

However, Southern's management are going around as though Govia has already won it!

I completely disagree with your comment about Southern. In what way are Southern's management going around as if they have already won it?

IF they announce it Friday surely it's a good day as any to offload bad news with everyone going away for the Bank Holiday <D

The sooner it's announced the better as rumours can be be put to rest, just hope my preferred bidder wins ;)

Our company council reps have heard the announcement will be Tuesday morning. Will find out tomorrow though.

Why will it be bad news?
Not for the winner, or the process (assuming they get it right this time ;)).
It's an ill wind...

Most people have little reason to care, but the usual suspects will have their pre-prepared statements.

The RMT will criticise whoever wins, and point out the missed opportunity to bring it under Government control. That's a given, and the likes of the Guardian and Daily Mirror will have probably written up most of its copy and just be waiting to fill in the [TOC NAME HERE] gaps.

Twitter will be full of people saying much the same, being thankful that company X has lost as they did such a bad job.

Etc.

Quite right, I must say!

I'd like it to be either First Group or Stagecoach personally :) but I don't really mind, I doubt it'll bring much change! Though I am looking forward to seeing another new liveried 455 passing through Ockley :P

Depending who wins it may not be a new livery, nor a 455!

Hmm. I'd be somewhat annoyed if I was invited to a press conference and it was about something totally irrelevant - given the fact that I'd hopefully have a very good idea what it was about (and may well have been told off the record what it was going to be about when invited).

If it IS unrelated, it must be quite significant news in itself. Are we expecting anything like that?

I suppose it could be that they can't announce the winner pending some legal challenge? That will put the press into a frenzy for sure.
