Just been onto the London Midland website and I want to get to Shrewsbury on Friday but want to go on the WSMR service from Tame Bridge to Shrewsbury that was

The site is quoting me £12.40 OPR on the day but it is telling me to go via Birmingham, would I still be able to go via WSMR or would I have to heed the advice of the website.

There is no OPR (Super Off Peak Return) for this flow.

The fares are:

CDR £12.40 (Valid from 0900; Rtn same day)
SVR £15.20 (Valid from 0900; Rtn within 1 month)
SDR £16.60 (Valid any time; Rtn same day)
SOR £17.10 (Valid any time; Rtn within 1 month)

The fare you quote is a CDR (Off Peak Day Return), not an OPR (Super Off Peak Return).

I don't see any reason why you should have to go into Birmingham, changing at Tame Bridge Parkway seems sensible.

If a route is sensible, it is likely to be permitted and unlikely to be challenged.

However, if you want to know if it is a permitted route you will need to consult the Routeing Guide, available here:

http://www.atoc.org/about-atoc/rail-settlement-plan/routeing-guide

If you get stuck on any part of the guide, say where you get stuck and I'm sure one of us can help.

Cheers for that Yorkie, didn't realise CDR was the code for Off Peak Return but thanks for sorting this for me

No problem.... but, it isn't!

SVR is an Off Peak Return.
CDR is an Off Peak Day Return.

This new system is apparently "simple" compared to the old system where a CDR was a "Cheap Day Return" and a SVR was a "Saver"... well, OK any sane person wouldn't think so, but it's ATOC who get to decide these things unfortunately.
