A winding-up petition filed against troubled rugby league side Salford Red Devils has been adjourned for a third time.

The petition was initially adjourned in June after the club said they were confident of attaining a bridging loan in order to pay a tax bill to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

It was adjourned a second time in September with the club on the verge of finishing the 2025 Super League season while Wednesday's adjournment was given in order to allow the club to "secure the necessary funds".

"We would like to reassure supporters that we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure a positive resolution," a club statement said.

Not sure that all that many other professional/semi-professional rugby league clubs (if any) are financed primarily by ordinary supporters. Most will have a rich backer to keep their club vaguely solvent. For example, the likes of Ian Lenaghan at Wigan, Eamonn McManus at St. Helens, Derek Beaumont at Leigh and Ken Davy at Huddersfield. Even then, it doesn't always guarantee success.

Do they have to remain in being until the matter of the winding-up petition by HMRC has been finally settled. The fans that you refer to have no financial input which may go towards that final settlement.

Well, your wish has been granted today and the club with a very long sporting history is now in liquidation.

Not seen anything. The Featherstone club put out a message last night that they were planning to go into administration instead, as an alternative to being wound up. The club has rather large debts!

That makes two very old-established Rugby League sides now in a state of flux.

The only time that I attended a match in which Featherstone Rovers were playing was on a Friday towards the end of 1992 at Watersheddings and the result was Oldham 4 Featherstone Rovers 24. I was given a free ticket by one of our company's customers to attend it with them.

Not an unsurprising result considering the very short time that Salford had to put together a team. Oldham led 16-0 at half time, then pressurised the Salford defence in the second half. Eight of the Oldham players scored a try each.

Another heavy defeat for the newly-formed Salford club, who were losing 0 - 28 at half time. Barrow won the try count 7 to 1.

After just their first two matches, Salford have a rather worrying points scored deficit. Is this league that they are in "a bridge too far" and should they have joined a lower league tier, in which to rebuild the club?

The newly-formed Salford team are really out of their depth when they come against the better teams in this league, as was proved in this match where they conceded eight tries in the first half, with the half-time score of 44-0.

Matters saw much of the same in the second half, as whilst Salford did cross the Doncaster try line twice, they conceded another six tries. Losing the try count 14-2 tells its own story.

Actually was 78-8. Bit of a gulf developing now between those teams at the top, and those at the bottom, of the Championship, and there's been several blowout results already. London Broncos breezed past mid-table North Wales Crusaders 106-18 yesterday, with Jimmy Meadows scoring a club record 42 points on his own!

Score was 4-26 at half-time. Newcastle won the try count 7-1.
Swinton now have played 6 matches and lost every one.

Score was 32-4 at half-time. Workington won the try count 9-2.

Top of the table London Broncos must have relished a home tie against Salford and must have been shocked when Salford scored a converted try in only the second minute, but then normality occurred and whilst the score was 28-6 at half time, the second half saw London score 38 more unanswered points, winning the try count 12 to 1.
