I’m probably raising a triviality here, but lately I’ve had a somewhat rubbish impression of station ticket staff. A few times I’ve had somewhat abrupt or sarcastic responses from people whilst trying to buy tickets. On one occasion at Formby I was trying ti buy an open return to Portsmouth. I got as far as ‘ I’d like an open return to..’ and was snapped at with ‘We don’t do open returns to Liverpool!’ When I stated that I was intending to purchase a ticket to Portsmouth I was greeted with ‘you didn’t say Portsmouth!’ Now, never mind the fact that I didn’t say Liverpool either, wouldn’t it be better to allow the customer to finish making their request and take the matter from there, rather than pre-empting and being aggressive? On other occasions I’ve had ticket sellers not listen to what I’ve asked for and start processing the wrong ticket or destination etc and when it’s pointed out the say something along the lines of ‘you didn’t say that’ or ‘you said’ such and such that I certainly did not say. There seems to be an air of general flippancy and impatience with rudeness lobbed in. This is not the majority of cases but it is irritating. Has anyone here encountered any serious rudeness from ticket staff? The cases I’ve encountered are probably somewhat minor but it just made me wonder what other people have seen.
