Advantix shows the cheapest advance tickets to be £25.00 for both one way with + VWC & Connections, so £50 is going to be your lowest advance if they can book that far ahead.

Exact dates AND times will be needed if you want the cheapest possible tickets.
If you only know roughly, we can still have a look, but they won't be quite as cheap.

They are going in June, Many thanks for the info. Ill pass it on

Should be able to get something in that region, but as the others say it is all down to dates and times. Hope they do get something as cheap as that, and if they get a railcard as well and use it in future it'll be even cheaper.

Just been having a "play" with this one. End of June. Using FGW site.

Cheapest fare (depending on dates), two advance singles, Total £42.50.

Choice of routes, each with different fares.

Single outbound via Newport £70.50
Single outbound via London £22.00

Single return via Newport £28
Single return via Basingstoke/Birmingham £20.50 (First Class is £161.00 !!!)

Non railcard fares:

No wonder people get confused !

Booked the tickets yesterday, best deal & timings, All advance fares.
friends very pleased, suggested rail card next time as one is disabled.
Nat rail site guided me to ATW to pay on line
Ex Ruabon 15th June ATW 1045 £28 EACH NO CARDS

Ex Salisbury 22nd June FGW 1341 £19 EACH .........
both routes one change only via Newport

I could have bought cheaper, if the route was Ruabon to Chester ATW
Chester to Euston VT then London to Salisbury, too complicated was my impression for a saving of £6 only. Some fares were around £80 each way if the advance was sold out. Hence £320 as opposed £94. Other routes included Birmingham with 3 changes for a small saving.
I fully agree confusion to the non regular traveller,
M
